Corey Brown has stepped out of Golden Slipper mode for a few moments to cast one eye forward to the Brisbane Winter Carnival and the 2011 Melbourne Cup later in the year.

He took the reins of Melbourne Cup runner Shoot Out in an Eagle Farm barrier trial as he enters the final stages before his track return

Brown floated Shoot Out around the track to record a comfortable win over the 1100m and put this week’s Golden Slipper controversy behind him.

The manner of the trial win gave both Brown and trainer John Wallace plenty to be happy about.

It was the first genuine run for the four-year-old since a disappointing 13th placed finished in last year’s Melbourne Cup.

He was ridden straight to the front in the trial and cruised to victory with plenty more left in the tank as you would expect after just 1100m.

Wallace has two Group one events on the cards in Sydney before returning to Brisbane for both the Hollindale Stakes and Doomben Cup.

He’s hoping for a good run first up but is not concerned about winning the race as it features the unconquerable Black Caviar.

“He’ll be getting home over the top of a few, but I don’t expect him to beat her (Black Caviar). I’m looking forward to the race and it will be good to be in there competing against her,” he said.

“After the TJ, he’ll run in the All Aged Stakes, then back to Queensland for the winter carnival. I couldn’t be happier with the horse, he’s done a treat and is better than ever.”
