2011 Golden Slipper Stakes Prospects run at Chipping Norton Stakes Day

A field featuring five 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes hopefuls will face-off in the opening Warwick Farm race at Chipping Norton Stakes Day this Saturday March 5, out to stake their claims for the richest two-year-olds’ event in the world.

Kicking off a cracker Sydney Autumn Carnival meeting on Saturday is the $100,000 The Clarry Conners Plate (1100m) due to jump at 12:55pm (AEDST).

Eight two-year-olds make up the Clarry Conners Plate final field this year including a number of entries vying for a spot in the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on April 2.

The shortest-priced of these runners in the early Golden Slipper betting markets at Luxbet is Defiant Dame.

Golden Slipper odds are dominated by Blue Diamond winning colt Sepoy at $2.45 while the David Payne-trained Defiant Dame is equal fifth-favourite at $18 through Luxbet.

More Than Ready filly Defiant Dame enjoyed a smart 3 ½ length win on debut in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick in October last year before running third behind Golden Slipper second elect Karuta Queen in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Wyong in December.

Defiant Dame resumes for the season this Saturday at Warwick Farm after showing promise with a winning 800m hitout at the track on February 22.

Purchased for $270,000 as a yearling, Defiant Dame was part-owned by prominent racing identity Les Samba who was murdered in Melbourne last Sunday evening.

Sitting at $26 in the Luxbet 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes markets are fellow Clarry Conners Plate rivals Anise and Foxwedge.

Stablemate to Sepoy, the fellow Peter Snowden-trained General Nediym filly Anise won her only career start to date at Rosehill over 1100m on November 20.

On Saturday Anise will attempt to add a second win to her name jumping from barrier five with Corey Brown in the mount.

Foxwedge has drawn barrier four in the Clarry Conners Plate, the John O’Shea-trained Fastnet Rock colt also having just their second career run after winning on debut at Rosehill last November.

Nash Rawiller will ride Foxwedge on Saturday as the promising youngster kicks off his Golden Slipper campaign.

The other 2011 Golden Slipper prospects running in the Clarry Conners Plate on Saturday are Irish Times prepared by multiple Golden Slipper winning trainer Conners and Paul Messara’s unraced Mossman colt Katter.

Luxbet have Irish Times as a $101 roughie in their current Golden Slipper betting markets while Katter is paying $151.
