The money is coming for the Chris Waller-trained Hinged to further frank the Flight Stakes form out of Sydney with a win in the Thousand Guineas 2021 at Caulfield Racecouse this Wednesday.
The feature race at the mid-week meet having been moved this season from Caulfield Guineas Day, the Group 1 $1 million Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) field has drawn a quality 13-filly line-up.
Heading the latest Thousand Guineas odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au following Monday’s final acceptances is early market mover, Worthy Cause filly Hinged.
She was last seen running a narrow second in a photo-finish to Never Been Kissed in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick at October 2 when having her second start for Waller since being transferred from the Queensland stables of Michael Nolan.
The Flight Stakes winner, Never Been Kissed, was excellent when second to Profondo in last Saturday’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) against the colts and geldings.
Now the money suggests Hinged can further frank the form heading south this week as the firming $4.20 in Flight Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Damian Lane takes over for Glen Boss in the saddle chasing his first Thousand Guineas success, while Waller is after his second in the classic after a 2014 victory with Amicus.
The danger is one-time favourite Zouzarella for Anthony & Sam Freedman, the daughter of Zoustar jumping from barrier two with in-form hoop Brett Prebble aboard.
Prebble has been outstanding in the Group 1 Victorian races this season and chases more success continuing his association on the lightly-raced Zouzarella.
The filly only debuted on August 21 when saluting at The Valley before a big two length effort at the same track and distance in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m).
Her latest run brought an end to the flawless run but she remained strong when second as the beaten favourite in the Jim Moloney Stakes (1400m) at Ladbrokes Park on Underwood Stakes Day.
Wednesday marks her first run in Group company, but Zouzarella looks well-suited to a mile and is drawn to win.
The Freedmans have also accepted for their last-start Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes winning filly Elusive Express.
The New Zealand-bred daughter of Jakkalberry is paying generous Thousand Guineas odds of $9.50 to go two-from-two in Melbourne over the mile and jumps from barrier 11 with Jye McNeil retaining the ride.
Prior to her Edward Manifold Stakes success on October 2 at HQ, Elusive Express ran a narrow third under a length beaten in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m).
The Thousand Guineas Prelude winner Bon’s A Pearla is also accepted for this week’s Group 1 rematch, the Kevin Corstens-trained Bon Hoffa filly a $16 chance out wide in gate 13 to complete the double for the first time since Irish Lights (2009).
Mornington horseman Jerome Hunter meanwhile saddles-up the $5.50 third elect in the markets with his Rebel Raider filly Barb Raider chasing a hat-trick of wins.
She jumps from gate three with Craig Williams continuing associations after guiding her to back-to-back wins at Sandown and Flemington respectively.
Two back she carted 59.5kg to a huge 3.5 length win over the mile before an equally impressive two length success over 1800m at HQ on September 22.
This weekend she gets in well at set weights and has plenty of claims, but could be looking for further and coming back to a mile might find her out against some of these.
Other notable hopes include the rails-drawn Prelude runner-up Heresy ($10) for Godolphin, Flight Stakes fourth placegetter Swift Witness ($13) prepared by Waterhouse & Bott, and her stablemate Queen Of Dubai ($18) coming off the Jim Moloney win over Zouzarella.
