Sydney’s premier horseman Chris Waller launches a seven-pronged assault on Saturday’s Tattersall’s Cup 2020 field at Eagle Farm including saddling-up the current favourite in betting Another Dollar.
Won last year by subsequent Melbourne Cup champion Vow And Declare, this year’s Group 3 $175,000 Tattersall’s Cup runs over a reduced distance (2400m down from 3000m) due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
The 2020 Tattersall’s Cup field has drawn a final line-up of 12 stayers and Waller has more than half the acceptors looking to hand him another victory following his 2016 success in the race with Index Linked.
A fortnight ago at Doomben Waller trained the first six across the line in the Group 3 BRC Chairman’s Handicap (2000m) including running the trifecta with Le Juge, Savacool and Another Dollar.
All three return for the rematch at Eagle Farm over the mile and a half this weekend and it is the third placed mare Another Dollar tipped to turn the tables.
The Ocean Park five-year-old won the Listed Gosford Cup (2000m) two back before crossing just 1.35 lengths off her winning stablemate in the Chairman’s carrying 57kg.
Saturday will be a distance test for her but she looks very nicely placed at the weights with jockey Jim Byrne to ride Another Dollar on 54kg as this season’s Tattersall’s Cup runs as a set weights plus penalties event.
Another Dollar currently pays $4.40 in the Tattersall’s Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, while the two stablemates that beat her home in Brisbane last start follow in betting with consistent Savabeel mare Savacool ($5.50) and the Irish-bred seven-year-old Le Juge ($6) presenting as the dangers again.
The rails-drawn Brimham Rocks ($7), Yulong Prince ($7.50), Black On Gold ($12) and the early market mover Shraaoh ($13) carrying the 59.5kg topweight round out the Waller contingent and all shape-up as livewire hopes.
Black On Gold (5th) and Shraaoh (6th) were also part of Waller’s Chairman’s top six, while Brimham Rocks ran ninth in the same lead-up.
Yulong Prince was last seen running a distant second in the wet at Rosehill on May 30 in the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m), while Alward (4th) is the only one of the Waller first six out of the Chairman’s not backing-up on Saturday.
Yulong Prince has also been accepted for the Listed $150,000 Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill in Sydney and looks more likely to run there with jockey James McDonald listed to ride.
Outside of the Waller runners the only other galloper rated a chance by the bookies is the Rex Lipp-trained mare Red Stina ($12).
