Another Favourite Falls as Humidor Done for the Spring
Humidor, who once again ran a place behind Winx during Saturday’s Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, has reportedly pulled up sore.
”Humidor has got a bit of swelling in the leg this morning,” champion trainer Darren Weir said during Monday’s Melbourne Cup launch at Flemington.
Humidor, above, finished with a win and three placings during five starts this Spring.
The three-time Group 1 winner, who was more likely on a path for the Mackinnon Stakes rather than the Cup, will now join the likes of Kings Will Dream, Homesman, The Taj Mahal, Egg Tart and Big Duke to be ruled out after second acceptances ahead of next Tuesday’s race.
”He is probably unlikely to go there (the Mackinnon Stakes). It is a shame as it is the race he has been set for” Weir went on to say.
Humidor firmed from $101 into $34 ahead of the Melbourne Cup, and was also among the favourites for the Mackinnon after winning the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on September 1st.
”You are trying to get your horse to perform in this week and little things go wrong” Weir concluded.
It caps off a horror Cox Plate weekend for the stable, with Kings Will Dream still recovering from a fractured pelvis and ruptured blood vessel.
