The official 2026 Caulfield Cup final field and barrier draw for the historic 150th running of the time-honoured staying classic are now out with a capacity line-up of stayers stepping out in the opening leg of the Spring Cup double this Saturday including last year’s champion Half Yours and a trio of raiders from the Northern Hemisphere looking to rain on the locals’ parade.

Heading the confirmed Caulfield Cup 2026 field for the $6.54 million, 2400m handicap clash on the weekend is the defending champion, Half Yours, allocated the 57.5kg topweight for his title defence.
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained St Gean gelding made history last season completing the Caulfield Cup – Melbourne Cup double and returns a six-year-old this year looking to return to winning form.
He and Jamie Melham combined in 2025 on 52.5kg to claim the Caulfield Cup trophy, but Half Your’s attempt to become the first dual champion since Ming Dynasty (1977, 1980) and the first to do son on back-to-back years since the might Rising Fast (1954, 1955) has become tougher with the champ allocated five extra kilos.
The only Caulfield Cup winner since Admire Rakti (58kg in 2014) to carrying more than 55.5kg to victory was Best Solution (57.5kg in 2018) giving Half Yours a notable weight hoodoo to break.
Melham was the first female Caulfield Cup winning jockey in history but has opted to ride in Sydney on Saturday partnering the speedy filly Blue Door in the Group 1 $20 million The Everest (1200m).
She will be replaced in the saddle by Mark Zahra who rides Half Yours for the first time in the Melbourne feature.
Half Yours is drawn in barrier 7 and currently pays $9 in the latest Caulfield Cup odds online at Ladbrokes.
Heading Caulfield Cup 2026 betting at $5.50 is Andrea Leek‘s spring revelation, Perth expat Cosmic Crusader, looking to continue his outstanding prep.
Winner of WA’s Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) before transferring over to Victoria, the Maurice gelding presents at the peak of his abilities having won three of his four starts this time in including completing the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes – Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes double here at the Caulfield track.
He was a brave runner-up in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) behind Birdman before bouncing back on October 3 at Flemington relishing a Heavy track to post an impressive 1.75 length Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) victory with 58kg.
Up to the mile and a half now for the first time is the obvious query, and Cosmic Crusader has a nasty Caulfield Cup barrier (17) for him and the flying William Pike to overcome on 56kg.
Incentivise (2021) was the last horse to do the Turnbull Stakes – Caulfield Cup double and Cosmic Crusader is being kept safe despite the distance question and gate.
The other Caulfield Cup contenders under $10 to win at time of publish are the Ciaron Maher-trained Group 3 Naturalism Stakes winner Zahrann ($6.50) and his stablemate Saint George ($8).
Night Of Thunder entire, Zahrann, won his way into the 18-horse Caulfield Cup field via a one length victory over Saint George in the Naturalism and is now out to atone for his disappointing and distant 11th in the Turnbull when over 18 lengths off the winner.
He didn’t seem to get through the Heavy conditions at Flemington and is sure to appreciate firmer ground back at Caulfield as a proven 2400m performer who comes right back in the Caulfield Cup weights from 56.5kg to 53kg with a gun barrier four draw further enhancing his claims.
Saint George also fared well in the Caulfield Cup 2026 barrier draw coming up with barrier two, which Half Yours won from last year, with the Roaring Lion grey boasting winning form up to 2900m in Europe and also looking to improve on an unplaced run in the Turnbull (10th).
Maher chases his third Caulfield Cup victory following his earlier success with Jameka (2016) and Duke De Sessa (2024) and has eight final acceptors in total including three of the four Caulfield Cup emergency runners.
His other best who is a confirmed starter is Royal Supremacy ($11) who was huge carrying a hefty 60kg to victory in the Group 3 JRA Cup (2000m) at his latest at Caulfield on September 27 and who comes back to 54.5kg for his Group 1 acid test.
Others around the same quote include Harry Charlton‘s British raider Wine Dark Sea who suffered an early blow drawing wide out in barrier 19 and fellow Northern Hemisphere visitor Enfjaar at the opposite end of the field drawn the rails.
Wine Dark Sea boasts a terrific 2400m strike rate with two wins and a second from his three previous mile and a half assignments, and he’ll be ridden by Damian Lane who partnered the last international Caulfield Cup champion Mer De Glace to victory for Japan back in 2019.
An impressive Group 3 Glorious Stakes winner over the Caulfield Cup distance before his trip down under, Enfjaar has his regular rider Ray Dawson in Australia for the mount.
The last of the international Caulfield Cup horses in 2026 is Joesph O’Brien‘s Irish-trained Starford to be ridden by Lachlan Neindorf and he’s a current 25/1 shot.
Other notable hopes also further down the Caulfield Cup betting markets on the final field not without claims for an upset include Matt Laurie‘s four-time Group 1 winning mare and former dual Oaks’ champion Treasurethe Moment, and the in-form seven-year-old Kingswood on the quick back-up off his fourth to shock 60/1 winner Land Legend in last weekend’s Group 1 Might And Power (2000m).
