Tom Dabernig‘s progressive sprinter Oliveanotherday and been slashed in futures betting on the 2026 Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes and is the new favourite to claim the Group 1 after his excellent victory in Saturday’s Group 3 $200,000 The Heath 1100 Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

One of the key early support acts on Memsie Stakes Day, The Heath 1100 Stakes 2026 results went the way of the punters with the up-and-coming Nicconi four-year-old, Oliveanotherday ($2.30F), easily saluting as the well-backed favourite with a 1.5 length victory over class mare Bridal Waltz with Group 1 winner War Machine third.

Coming back in terrific fashion after a killer autumn/winter prep that saw him win four on the trot, the gelding extended his winning streak franking his sharp lead-up trial form.

“He’s a horse that does everything so easy,” winning trainer Dabernig told the media post-race.

“When he was going through the grades he was winning his races by good margins and in good times. I understand as we get deeper into the spring, it gets tougher, but now he’s a lovely sound horse and the sky’s the limit.”

Racing for the first time since breaking his black-type maiden in Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) at his home Warrnambool track with a 2.5 length romp home in the wet back in May, Oliveanotherday took another step towards potential elite level glory handling a class field of rivals fresh with authority.

Ridden to victory by Harry Coffey, the horse was superb with the Warrnambool flyer coming from fourth on the turn for home, squeezed for room before finding the gap he needed inside the 150m to storm past the front-running Bridal Waltz and extend late for his eye-catching return.

“He’s a horse, today, that we were a little bit concerned about with barrier one and I was mindful, talking to Harry Coffery during the week, of not wanting to chase the speed and hold a position and give him too hard a run,” Dabernig said.

“But in doing so, turning for home and when he was held up, we were all a bit tense. He’s a horse that can quicken and get himself out of trouble in two or three strides and when he hit the front, I saw that Harry didn’t have to use the whip all that much and was hands and heels and he won nicely.

“It’s a great way to kick the preparation off and hopefully he can continue into the spring and take those next steps.”

Dabernig’s attention now turns to the upcoming major spring Group 1 sprints with the $2 million Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes (1200m) back at the Caulfield track on September 27 now firmly on the radar.

“The ultimate goal is to try and get him to a Group 1 in best possible shape, and we might look at the Bobbie Lewis (at Flemington on September 12), to give him a look at the straight at Flemington which might open up an option for Cup week.

“The goal at the moment would probably be the Manikato. He’s a very good Caulfield horse.”

Oliveanotherday’s quote in early Manikato Stakes betting at race sponsor Ladbrokes was quickly cut following The Heath Stakes in from $21 to $4 to sit top dog ahead of Giga Kick, Joliestar and Jigsaw.

Looking further ahead, Dabernig said there had been some early interest in his super sprinter potentially securing a coveted spot in the $20 million The Everest at Randwick this October.

“If the opportunity presented, we would fully embrace it,” he said.

“There has been some a little bit of interest in the horse. I think they were keen to see what he did today.

“It would be a good opportunity for horse, trainer and owner, but we won’t get ahead of ourselves.”

Oliveanotherday was 100/1 to win this year’s edition of the world’s richest turf race but has promptly come into $26.
