King Of Light will put his undefeated record on the line in the 2025 WA Guineas at Ascot on Saturday with Dan Morton‘s outstanding three-year-old odds-on to claim the key support act on Railway Stakes Day in Perth.

Group 1 racing in WA gets underway on the weekend with the Railway Stakes but there’s sure to be plenty of eyes on the day’s earlier mile feature race with a smart field of three-year-olds taking to the track in the Group 2 $500,000 WA Guineas (1600m).

Dominant favourite in WA Guineas betting paying $1.90 through Ladbrokes.com.au is Earthlight gelding King Of Light who lines-up with a flawless four-from-four record to protect.

Amelia’s Jewel ($1.90 in 2022) was the last WA Guineas favourite to salute for the punters!

The classy young chestnut is already a two-time Black-Type winner at the Ascot track having saluted in back-to-back Listed features this prep, the latest of which saw him winning the Fairetha Stakes over 1400m on November 8.

He now steps-up to a mile and Group company for the first time with Willie Pike retaining the ride from a favourable gate four draw in the 13-horse WA Guineas field.

Having handled every assignment to date and improving each time out, King Of Light is the deserving top fancy and the one to beat in Saturday’s lucrative event.

Morton, who won the race back in 2015 with Man Booker, launches a three-pronged assault on this year’s race with the favourite joined in the starting line-up by stablemates My Authoritah ($46) and Buthelezi ($11) drawn at opposite ends of the field in barriers two and 12 respectively.

Buthelezi lines-up as one of the value chances despite the wide alley with Brad Parnham booked to partner the in-form and well-bred son of Smart Missile.

He chases a hat-trick having won his latest two – both over 1500m at Ascot – in easier grade by big margins.

Last start he overcame barrier 11 of 11 to put two lengths on the next over the line here on November 1 in a handicap clash carrying 54kg.

The ease of that win puts him in good stead ahead of his Guineas acid test despite the rise in weight up to 57kg at set weights.

Following King Of Light in the markets at WA Guineas odds of $3.60 meanwhile is the Daniel & Ben Pearce trained Rock Fest.

A son of Group 1 winner Awesome Rock, the consistent gelding is another out of the traditional lead-up race having placed third with merit in the Fairetha when under a length of the winner.

Punters wanting to follow the early money trail in the WA Guineas should jump on Heeza Phoenix who has been backed in from $10 to $7 in the latest markets!

Fitter for the run and looking suited to the rise in distance, Rock Fest has Chris Parnham in the saddle again looking to turn the tables on his last start conqueror in the rematch.

Mitchell Pateman‘s early WA Guineas market mover, Heeza Phoenix ($10 into $7), rounds out the single-figure fancies having been heavily supported early.

The colt, by former Australian Guineas champ Grunt, is bred to run a strong 1600m and after kicking off his career with back-to-back wins at Belmont comes into the Group 2 on the back of a Fairetha Stakes second.

Lucy Fiore does the piloting again from barrier nine aboard one of the key dangers.

The 2025 W.A. Guineas is set to run as Ascot Race 8 at 4:20pm (AWST) / 7:20pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card in Perth.
