Chris Waller’s dual Group 1 winning mare September Run is tipped to add a third elite level trophy to the cabinet lining-up as favourite in the 2022 Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide this weekend.

A quality line-up of fillies and mares does battle in the Group 1 $502,250 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday as the action of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival continues.
Heading the field and drawn ideally in barrier five for last year’s winning jockey Craig Williams is Exceed And Excel four-year-old September Run.
After her Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes victory as a three-year-old, the class mare has returned to form this preparation.
Two back she was only a half-length third behind shock winner Roch ‘N’ Horse in Flemington’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap before her last start upset at The Valley under the lights in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes on March 25.
Saturday marks her first run in Adelaide and the bookies are taking no chances with September Run sitting top of the Robert Sangster Stakes odds at $4.60 and firming through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The danger occupying the second line of Robert Sangster Stakes betting at $6 is Bella Nipotina for Ciaron Maher & David Eustace.
Also drawn well in barrier three with star Derby hoop John Allen booked for the ride, the four-year-old daughter of Pride Of Dubai also comes off a lead-up win.
She narrowly defeated Tricky Gal at Randwick on a Heavy (10) on April 9 to claim the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m), her first victory since September last year.
After rounding out her spring with back-to-back Group 1 seconds in Melbourne including the third to Nature Strip in the VRC Classic, there’s no denying Bella Nipotina has class and she’s highly-rated here.
The in-form Maher/Eustace stable have a total of three runners in this year’s Robert Sangster field with Bella Nipotina joined by stablemates Away Game ($8) and Snapdancer ($14).
The rails-drawn Away Game presents as a genuine threat as the Snitzel four-year-old – a winner of over $3.6 million in prize money – looks to improve on her seventh to Shelby Sixtysix in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) from March.
Prior to that she was racing very well stringing together a host of top three performances including her third behind Isotope at the Gold Coast in the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint and a second to Marabi when a half-length beaten in Caulfield’s Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m).
On firmer going in Adelaide Away Game can improve and she’s drawn to get a good run from barrier one with Linda Meech in the saddle.
Snapdancer meanwhile is drawn the opposite end of the field out in barrier 16, the Choisir five-year-old having won the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) in February before a last start flop (15th) in the Newmarket.
Brooklyn Hustle at a current quote of $9.50 is the last of the single-figure hopes, Jamie Kah to partner the Jason Warren & Dean Krongold-trained Victorian raider.
The mare has had two previous Morphettville runs when fifth in this race last year before a Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) win next-up and could surprise a few here again.
The defending champion Instant Celebrity ($12) also returns chasing back-to-back wins for the first time in the race’s history.
The Phillip Stokes-trained daughter of Not A Single Doubt won as a filly last autumn and is back as a more mature mare jumping from gate 12 with Daniel Moor to ride second-up.
Two-from-three second-up to date, she is the genuine Morphettville specialist in the mix (6:3-2-0) and was far from disgraced fresh when only a half-head back second to Bella Vella in the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m).
Bella Vella also lines-up in the Group 1 this weekend as a $14 shot, the Will Clarken-trained Commands seven-year-old the evergreen veteran in the field.
Boasting a strong Morphettville track record of three wins from five starts, Bella Vella is out to be the first mare to complete the RN Irwin Stakes – Robert Sangster double since Driefontein (2014).
The 2022 Robert Sangster Stakes is set to run as Morphettville Race 8 at 4:02pm (ACST) and the latest markets courtesy of Ladbrokes.com.au are available in full here.
