Track Information: Inspection 6:10AM 12/2; Going Stick 8.7 / Shear 10.4 / Soil Moisture @ 24.5% / 8mms of irrigation to be applied this morning
The weather in Melbourne is clear and warm meaning there is unlikely to be any change to the ideal Good (4) Caulfield track rating as punters welcome back elite level racing.
Caulfield racing gets underway at 12:40pm (AEDT) with the nine-race CF Orr Stakes Day card continuing through until the older mares face off in the Group 3 $200,000 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at 5:40pm (AEDT).
The first of the Black-Type features sees a number of exciting three-year-olds resume in the Group 2 $300,000 Autumn Stakes (1400m) at 1:15pm (AEDT) where all nine acceptors remain in the mix and are led in betting by the rails-drawn Dissident filly Decent Raine.
The countdown to the Blue Diamond Stakes heats up in earnest with Races 3 and 4 on Orr Day with the fillies and then the colts and geldings facing off in their respective Blue Diamond Prelude races.
In Race 5 at 3:05pm (AEDT) the three-year-old fillies line-up in the Group 3 $200,000 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) where four scratchings – Arcaded (15), Heresy (5), La Rocque (12) and Cardigan Queen (8) – leaves 11 hopefuls led by the in-form Scorched Earth chasing a third win on the trot.
An excellent edition of the Group 3 $200,000 T.S. Carlyon Cup (1600m) has drawn a quality field of milers and returning stayers with the fit favourite Open Minded taking on the likes of Kiwi star Callsign Mav now with Danny O’Brien and Melbourne Cup placegetter Spanish Mission now with Peter Moody.
Race 7 at 4:25pm (AEDT) is the Group 2 $300,000 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) for the sprinters and the field of seven remains after Phillip Stokes withdrew Milvea (4) with an open market making for a tough race for punters.
Of course, the event everyone is waiting for is the Group 1 $750,000 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) due to jump at 5:05pm (AEDT) and all 12 final acceptors are still in the mix.
The 2022 CF Orr Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au have the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Sinawann on top, but it should be a beauty with Doncaster Mile winner Cascadian here drawn the rails and the David Jolly-trained Caulfield 1400m specialist Behemoth the danger.
