The weather in Sydney for the city’s second-richest race meeting is for clear skies and with no chance of any serious rainfall the current Good (4) Rosehill track rating looks set to stay across the afternoon.
Rosehill racing kicks off at 12:40pm (AEDT) and the bumper 10-race card continues through until the last at 6:45pm (AEDT).
There may be no Black-Type races on the program but there is plenty to get excited about with four Special Condition races offering in excess of $9.5 million in total prize money including the inaugural $700,000 The Four Pillars (1500m).
The 2021 Four Pillars field for eligible Midway horses is at capacity with two of the four emergencies gaining starts after the scratching of Sunborn and All Machiavellian out of Rosehill Race 4 at 2:40pm (AEDT).
Next-up the $750,000 Rosehill Gold Cup (2000m) is set to jump at 3:25pm (AEDT) where the field is led by the in-form Think It Over chasing the lucrative bonus after Cox Plate scratching Gold Trip was also withdrawn from the event.
A number of graduates out of the world’s richest turf race – the $15 million The Everest – chase a consolation prize in Rosehill Race 6 today with the running of the $1 million Classique Legend Stakes (1300m) at 4:10pm (AEDT).
Prime Candidate (7) and the widely-drawn Top Ranked are out of the Classique Legend (Winners) Stakes field and the money is on The Everest runner-up Masked Crusader to go one better in the million-dollar showdown.
The meeting’s marquee race is of course the third edition of the $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m) for four-year-olds featuring a full 18-horse field led in betting by Toorak Handicap champ out of Melbourne I’m Thunderstruck.
