Group 1 racing is back in Sydney today, Saturday September 19, for George Main Stakes Day 2020 and below we take a look at the race day scratchings and Randwick track report ahead of the first.

There are some scattered showers forecast across the afternoon in Sydney, but with only light rainfall on the radar the current Good (4) Randwick track rating should stay in play.

Racing at Randwick gets underway at 12:15pm (AEST) and the nine-race card continues through until 5:15pm (AEST).

Punters are treated to four Group status races starting with the Flight Stakes-bound fillies facing off in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (Race 4).

True Faith (10) for Friday’s Newcastle Cup winning trainer Kris Lees comes out of the 2020 Tea Rose Stakes field, which is shaping up as a two-filly affair between Hungry Heart ($2.10 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) and the Silver Shadow – Furious Stakes double winner Dame Giselle ($2.80 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).

Next-up the Epsom types do battle in the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (Race 5), the field for which is down to nine after four scratchings including the now Team Snowden-trained The Candy Man (3).

The meeting’s marquee event is the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) running as Race 6 at 3:15pm (AEST) and all seven original acceptors remain in the mix including the hot favourite Verry Elleegant ($2.35 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).

Following the Group 1 there will be plenty of interest in Race 7 with a field of potential The Everest horses facing off in the Group 2 The Shorts including the resuming favourite Bivouac ($4.50 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).

The last of the Black-Types and the penultimate race is then the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (Race 8) where the notable withdrawal is the in-form Paths Of Glory (9).
