Three of the best fancied runners in Saturday’s 2020 The Goodwood final field have all suffered an early blow drawing a double-digit barrier for the Group 1 feature at Morphettville.

A field of 15 star sprinters will do battle in the Group 1 $400,000 The Goodwood (1200m) this weekend in Adelaide including the well supported favourite Gytrash drawn out in gate 12.
The in-form Gordon Richards-trained local has a stellar Morphettville track record (9:3-2-3) including his last start Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) success by over three lengths on April 18.
Winner of Flemington’s Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) in an upset before two subsequent Melbourne Group 1 placings during a surprising autumn campaign, the four-year-old Lope De Vega entire presents fit off his lead-up win when fresh and looks ready for the 1200m.
Despite the wide alley for jockey Jason Holder to overcome, Gytrash remains the firm favourite in The Goodwood betting at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.50 for the win.
If successful, Gytrash will become the first favourite in The Goodwood betting since Black Heart Bart (2016) to salute for the punters and the first RN Irwin – The Goodwood double winner in the same year since Bomber Bill (2003).
Second favourite at current The Goodwood odds of $7 in barrier 10 is the Anthony Freedman-trained Santa Ana Lane who won the 2018 edition of the race.
Out to make history as just the third dual The Goodwood winner and the first on non-successive years, the multiple Group 1 champ was last seen running sixth in Randwick’s Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 18.
He presents fit third-up on the weekend in Adelaide and should appreciate coming back down in distance as the seven-year-old looks for his first victory since last year’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m).
On the drift in betting out to $7.50 now is the Patrick Payne-trained The Inevitable who has the outside barrier (15) this weekend.
Jockey Dean Holland comes aboard the progressive Dundeel four-year-old for the gelding’s Morphettville debut, The Inevitable dropping in weight off a close second first-up over 1000m at Flemington on ANZAC Day.
The early The Goodwood market mover following the barrier draw in from $9 to $7.50 is the Godolphin-raced Trekking.
Last weekend’s South Australian Derby winning hoop John Allen (Russian Camelot) is booked to ride the James Cummings-trained son of Street Cry, Trekking coming off a second in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on All Aged Stakes Day.
The $3.5 million earner is back in weight having carted 60kg there and is after his second career Group 1 win having taken out last year’s Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane.
The last of the single-figure hopefuls looking to be the first mare to win The Goodwood since Platelet (2013) is Tony & Calvin McEvoy’s three-time Group 1 winner Sunlight.
Four-year-old Sunlight was one of the big winners in The Goodwood barrier draw coming up trumps with gate three for her hoop Barend Vorster.
Vorster has his third straight ride on the classy daughter of Zoustar who ran second to Gytrash first-up as the beaten favourite in the RN Irwin before her luckless last (16th) from a wide gate in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) last time out.
