There is rain forecast in Melbourne today with the bulk of the wet weather to hit just when the Group racing action at Caulfield kicks off, meaning there could be a downgrade to the current Good (3) track rating.

Blue Diamond Day racing starts at 12:30pm (AEDT) with the Listed $120,000 Ladbrokes Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m) featuring 2016 Melbourne Cup winner Almandin and continues through until the 2018 Peter Young Stakes field of Australian Cup hopefuls do battle in Race 9 at 5:25pm (AEDT).

Punters are treated to a triple-shot of Group 1 racing action across the afternoon starting with the weight-for-age 2018 Futurity Stakes (Race 6) where all 11 original acceptors remain in the mix including the Darren Weir-trained favourite Brave Smash ($3.80).

The day’s marquee race is next on the card with a smart field of juveniles making their elite level debut in the 2018 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (Race 7).

The Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes field runs at a capacity 16 starters with the first two emergencies Aristocratic Miss and More Than Exceed coming in for the scratched duo of #5 Ollivander and #7 Native Soldier.

There is also a spot for the Darren Weir-trained first emergency Quilista (4) in the Ladbrokes Oakleigh Plate 2018 field (Race 8) after the withdrawal of #7 Savanna Amour (20) who was drawn the outside.
