Flying Tulloch Lodge-trained mare Sedanzer is red hot favourite to keep her summer winning streak going at Gosford Racecourse on Thursday with a win in the Belle Of The Turf Stakes 2017.
Due to run as Gosford Race 6 at 4:55pm (AEDT), this summer’s Group 3 $150,000 Gosford RSL Club Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) field has attracted 10 fillies and mares.
Sitting top of the field and weights carrying 59kg is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Sebring four-year-old Sedanzer who chases a fourth win on the trot.
The latest Belle Of The Turf Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are dominated by the last start winner over the Randwick mile on December 16 who had a two length margin to spare that day carrying 57.5kg to victory.
Sedanzer is at $2.30 and firming to salute again with apprentice Rachael King continuing her association on the Group 1 tested mare who has had a dozen career starts for six wins to date.
The danger looking at the Belle Of The Turf Stakes betting markets out to stop Sedanzer from scoring her first stakes victory is the also flying Pecans ($4.80).
Jumping one closer to the fence than the favourite in gate nine with Melbourne Cup winning hoop Corey Brown booked for the ride, the Joe Pride-trained Pecans has run top two in her seven latest starts going back to the start of March.
She enjoyed back-to-back victories earlier this prep saluting at Gosford and Warwick Farm respectively before her last start second when narrowly defeated back at the Farm on December 23 over 1400m.
Pecans rises to a mile for the first time in the Belle Of The Turf Stakes and her excellent lead-up form makes are a definite chance to return to winning form in tougher company.
There are a further three chances under $10 for the win this Thursday with Positive Problems ($7), Our Belisa ($7.50) and the rails-drawn Miss Ballantine ($8.50) all boasting genuine claims.
Positive Problems is prepared by Bjorn Baker, the Sebring five-year-old a Rosehill winner two back in an upset as a $41 roughie before her fourth to Noire over 1400m on December 9.
She has been freshened-up since and is a dual mile winner, so the increased metres should work to her advantage here as will the drop from 58kg to the 54kg minimum.
Our Belisa also has only 54kg on her back for the Belle Of The Turf Stakes, the Lope De Vega four-year-old a winner of three on the trot earlier in the spring before her November 25 second at Rosehill.
She has won a subsequent trial on December 22 and is a genuine miler with three wins and a third from her six previous 1600m starts.
Miss Ballantine is also in flying form for the Chris Waller stable, the four-year-old daughter of Redoute’s Choice having run second twice at Rosehill in similar company before her lead-up fifth at Warwick Farm from last Saturday.
