Chris Waller’s last start Gold Coast Bracelet winner Dawn Wall has drawn out in barrier 12 of 16 in a capacity The Roses 2017 field at Doomben Racecourse this weekend.

Set to run as Race 6 at 3:21pm (AEST) on the Doomben Cup Day line-up, the $175,000 Group 2 The Magic Millions Roses (2000m) is the traditional lead-up to next month’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m).
Originally Waller’s Australasian Oaks winner Egg Tart, who leads pre-field Queensland Oaks odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, was nominated for The Roses field.
Without her final acceptances, the next shortest-priced in futures Queensland Oaks betting running in the Group 2 lead-up on the weekend is stablemate Dawn Wall.
The Fastnet Rock filly was last seen winning the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) a fortnight ago with Hugh Bowman aboard from barrier 11 (of 14).
She is up over further this weekend and drawn double-digits again, but has Bowman retaining the ride and is out to retain her $5 price for the Oaks on June 3.
Waller prepared the Queensland Oaks winner Winx (2015) two years back and along with Dawn Wall has two other The Roses acceptors heading towards the mile and a half classic this winter.
Dawn Wall is joined by stablemates Invincibella and Oklahoma Girl drawn at opposite ends of the Doomben Roses field in barriers two and 13 respectively.
Kerrin McEvoy rides Invincibella who is out to improve on a lead-up fourth in the Gold Coast Bracelet, while Oklahoma Girl has English hoop James Doyle aboard for her black-type debut.
The other key form line to follow into The Roses is the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2010m) run at Morphettville two weeks ago.
With Egg Tart not backing-up, the best out of the Morphettville feature is the Darren Weir-trained runner-up Kenedna.
The Not A Single Doubt filly is the $6 third favourite for the 2017 Queensland Oaks and after going down by the barest of margins in Adelaide, gets the chance to return to winning form on Saturday from a gun barrier four draw.
The other key The Roses fillies in the mix are the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained The Pinnacle who was one and a half lengths away second to Dawn Wall in the Gold Coast Bracelet, and local hope Candika for Eagle Farm horseman Steven O’Dea coming off a third in the same key lead-up.
