It is shaping up as a tough betting race for the punters in Adelaide on Saturday with half the two-year-olds in the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes 2017 field under double-figures for the Group 3 win.
Scheduled to take place as Race 2 at 1:10pm (ACST), running at the Morphettville Parks Track, as part of the SA Derby Day action the $175,000 Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) field is down to eleven starters.
Six of those are under $10 in the latest SA Sires’ Produce Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au including the $3.20 favourite Broadband drawn a treat in barrier four.
Noel Callow is booked to ride the Phillip Stokes-trained Sebring filly after partnering her for a breakthrough win at the track in the Group 3 SA Breeders Stakes (1200m) a fortnight back.
She was ultra-impressive three runs into her career, improving on a sixth to subsequent Myer Classic winner I Am A Star on debut at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and her first-up third in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville in early April.
The Breeders Stakes victory saw Broadband beat home her closest rival Time Awaits by over three and a half lengths suggesting she’ll handle the step up to 1400m this weekend without a worry.
The next best in the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes odds are Casino Fourteen ($4.80) now jumping from the far outside alley with Craig Williams in the saddle and the rails-drawn Snitzepeg ($5).
Greg Eurell has his Cranbourne-trained Casino Prince colt Casino Fourteen in Adelaide for the first time on the back of a brave second over the distance in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
Snitzepeg represents flying Victorian horseman Darren Weir and has Damian Lane aboard as the colt looks to secure successive wins after a runaway five length success over 1200m at Ballarat on April 24.
Also at single-figures are Tony McEvoy’s Breeders Stakes winning Nicconi filly Time Awaits ($6) chasing the Group 3 double, the Leon MacDonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained perennial placegetter Danger Deal ($6.50) and early market mover Silverhawk ($12 into $7) who has been heavily backed by the punters.
From six career starts, Rebel Raider colt Danger Deal has finished second or third on five occasions including his second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at Morphettville in mid-March.
His latest run saw him head to Melbourne on April 22 where he was under a length beaten running third to Pure Scot in the $300,000 VOBIS Sires (1200m) at Flemington in a gun lead-up to his return home on Saturday.
Silverhawk meanwhile is prepared in Melbourne by Mick Price, the Artie Schiller colt also a VOBIS Sires graduate having caught the eye running fourth in the race as a $26 roughie on debut.
