2017 Queensland Oaks Next for Egg Tart

Trainer Chris Waller has confirmed that the 2017 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse on June 3rd will figure as the next major point of call for Egg Tart, following her smart win in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) over the weekend.

Egg Tart attracted plenty of attention in Australasian Oaks betting markets in the hours leading up to jump and justified the trend when she flew home in the final straight at Morphettville to record a short-nose win over race favourite Kenedna.

Waller, who was in the United States for the famed Kentucky Derby meet when the filly posted her maiden Group 1 win, confirmed that she will now be set for the Queensland Derby 2017.

“It was about 3.30 in the morning,” Waller told Sky Sports Radio.

“I managed to stay up after the Kentucky Oaks.

“We were hoping Egg Tart performed as well as she did and she will definitely go to Queensland.

“One of the reasons we sent her there (Adelaide) was to split the fillies up. Obviously we’ve got Dawn Wall as well.”

Egg Tart debuted to racing for fourth in the Mary Maughan Maiden (1200m) in November; progressing to third in the TAB.com.au Maiden (1400m) at Warwick Farm a fortnight later.

Sent to the paddock after she broke through for a maiden race win in the TAB Rewards Maiden (1550m) at Canterbury on November 30th, the Sebring filly resumed this time for a comfortable win in the Total Fabrication Services Plate (1300m) at Newcastle on March 11th and has only continued to improve upon stepping up in distance.

Winner of a Warwick Farm minor over 1400m second-up, Egg Tart delivered a handy field a defeat of more than three lengths in the Auckland Racing Club Trophy (1600m) at Flemington on April 25th, in what was her only other start prior to the Australasian Oaks.

Egg Tart has firmed into tied $5 favouritism in early 2017 Queensland Oaks betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au; sharing the top line of betting with stable mate Dawn Wall as well as Kenedna.
