Two scratchings from the original acceptors, including early co-favourite for the Doomben Cup Articus, leaves just 10 gallopers in the mix for this year’s $358,000 Group 2 Attwood Marshall A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m).
That has seen the AD Hollindale Stakes odds firm notably at Ladbrokes.com.au on the favourite It’s Somewhat, the John O’Shea-trained Doncaster Mile winner chasing a third win on the trot.
The ultra-consistent Dynaformer six-year-old is up from the 55kg he carried to victory in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) in Sydney on April 1 to 59kg, but won the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) before that at weight-for-age.
With a winning Warwick Farm trial in the interim and winning form up to 2000m, plenty stacks up for It’s Somewhat to win the Hollindale this weekend on way to $650,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) on May 20.
So is It’s Somewhat the one to back or is there value further down AD Hollindale Stakes betting this season in the likes of Nick Olive’s last start Doomben winning mare Single Gaze ($5.50) or the Chris Waller-trained McCreery ($4.80) to be ridden by Jeff Lloyd?

#3 Sense Of Occasion ($6.50)
Love the price offered on this in-form Kris Lees-trained gelding who has finished top three in all four runs dating back to December. Last two starts at Randwick have produced Group 1 thirds firstly to It’s Somewhat at a huge price ($61) before he was at $101 when third to the world’s best Winx in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m). Weight-for-age is the test again, but is a Group 2 winner and the 1800m looks ideal. Can surprise again.

#1 It’s Somewhat ($3.40)
Lots of boxes ticked by the favourite and he’s definitely the one to beat based off the Doncaster Mile win. Down in grade and the extra metres here are a non-issue. Gets things his way from the gun barrier three draw, small field and has more than enough class to salute improving on his fifth in last year’s race. Doomben Cup third followed in 2016 and could do the double this year with a bit of luck.
3rd
#5 Cylinder Beach ($8.50)
Really hard to knock a Queensland galloper going this good. Desleigh Forster’s Showcasing four-year-old has won three of his past four starts including a big run in the Toowoomba Cup (2000m) on April 8 under 59.5kg. Weight-for-age will suit. This is his first Gold Coast run, but coming back to 1800m with Jim Byrne retaining the ride in gate four should have him right in the money.
