Undefeated filly Desert Lashes is one of the key nominees for the Euclase Stakes 2017 this Saturday at Morphettville Racecourse on Robert Sangster Stakes Day.
Group 1 Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival action kicks off this weekend and a key support act on the program is the $500,000 Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds.
The set weights sprint attracted a bumper 27 nominees including the Lisa Lefoe-trained Desert Lashes who was originally also entered for the $1 million Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).
Being kept for an easier assignment against her own age, the unbeaten daughter of Reward For Effort shoots for a ninth win from as many career starts if accepted into the Euclase Stakes field.
Prepared out of Alice Springs, Desert Lashes has had three runs at Morphettville this campaign including her impressive two length win last time out in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m).
She is also a three time winner over the Euclase Stakes distance of 1200m and will have no issues stepping out over the extra 100m on Saturday in the half-a-million-dollar feature.
Others out of the Redelva Stakes nominated for a rematch in the Group 2 this weekend include the Brent Stanley-trained runner-up Balancing Act and third placed So You Too for local trainers Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas.
Prior to the Redelva Stakes placing Not A Single Doubt filly Balancing Act enjoyed three straight short distance sprint wins in Victoria and she’s out to return to that winning form this weekend having the benefit of an Adelaide run behind her now.
The highest rated of the Euclase Stakes nominations meanwhile is the Stuart Webb-trained Pins filly Legless Veuve.
The Group 1 performer chases her first win since the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in early February.
She was last seen improving on a last (16th), when found-out distance wise in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m), crossing second in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on April 22.
Also high-up the ratings are the likes of the Darren Weir-trained stablemates El Divino and Ken’s Dream, along with Defcon for Peter & Paul Snowden.
Snitzel colt El Divino comes off a fourth in the Redelva Stakes, while the ultra-consistent Ken’s Dream has run top two in all but one of his eight career starts in Victoria to date.
Choisir colt Defcon is second-up on the weekend after finishing fifth to Derryn at Randwick in the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Stakes (1200m), the multiple Group 3 winner’s first run since the spring.
Other standout nominees include the Gordon Richards-trained Benz to be ridden by Hong Kong-based hoop Joao Moreira and Lindsay Park’s Star Witness filly Fuhryk.
The Euclase Stakes 2017 field and barriers are out on Wednesday followed by updated odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
