The next step towards next month’s Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes 2017 takes place at Caulfield Racecourse on Australia Day and in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview betting is split between Limestone and Tulip.
Running as Caulfield Race 4 at 3:20pm (AEDT), this season’s $150,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) runs over 1000m and features a dozen two-year-old hopefuls.
Heading the latest Blue Diamond Fillies Preview odds at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au are the Darren Weir-trained Limestone and Tulip for Lindsay Park who both come off a last start victory.
Damian Lane rides Weir’s promising daughter of Helmet, the impressive grey having run third at Moonee Valley on debut in December before her last start victory over 1000m at Flemington on New Year’s Day.
Limestone is currently not officially nominated for the Blue Diamond Stakes on February 25, but a win tomorrow could see connections pay the late entry fee.
The bookies are also taking no chances in futures Blue Diamond Stakes betting with the filly at $13 for the win in a wide open market.
She is second only to Tulip in markets for the Fillies Blue Diamond Preview on Thursday.
Tulip is the $11 favourite in all-in markets for next month’s Group 1 to hand co-trainer David Hayes with his sixth Blue Diamond Stakes success and his first since Reaan (2008).
Champion hoop Craig Williams rides the Blue Diamond favourite in the Preview from a nice barrier three draw, Tulip having just her second start after an eye-catching win on debut on New Year’s Eve at Moonee Valley.
There is just one other filly currently under double-figures in the Blue Diamond Preview field this autumn with Miss Wahoo at $9.50.
A $26 Blue Diamond Stakes chance in futures betting, the Tony McEvoy-trained daughter of Master Of Design is a maiden after her two career starts.
Her first run last October produced a close third in Caulfield’s Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) before she finished second to Limestone first-up at the start of January.
Miss Wahoo has been freshened-up since, gets every chance to turn the tables on her last start conqueror after drawing a treat in barrier four and has Kerrin McEvoy continuing his association.
Robbie Griffiths has accepted for four fillies in the Blue Diamond Preview line-up this year with his contingent led by Zarpoya.
Luke Currie rides the Sepoy filly from a wide gate 10 draw in her first appearance since a third on debut when defeated under two lengths at Sandown in November’s Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m).
The other three best fancied in the field are the Clinton McDonald-trained Snitzel filly Spoils ($10) who ran second in the Debutant Stakes back in the spring, the rails-drawn Squaw Peak ($11) for Team Hawkes on debut and Henry Dwyer’s lightly-raced Stratum filly Straviera ($12).
