One of three Restricted Listed events running at the Gold Coast on Saturday is the Magic Millions Cup 2017 – betting tips and the latest odds on the middle-distance feature found below.

The first two emergencies have gained a start in a capacity field engaged to face off in this summer’s $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) when the handicap event takes place as the Gold Coast Race 6 at 2:35pm (AEST).

Heading the latest Magic Millions Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.80 for the win are the early market mover Most Important for the race’s 2012 winning trainer with Spirit Of Boom, Tony Gollan, and the 61kg top weight Lucky Hussler.

A four-year-old son of I Am Invincible, Most Important has won his past three starts including the Buffering Quality (1300m) at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago carrying 58kg to victory.

He returns to the Gold Coast for the first time since his sixth in the Magic Millions Guineas here last year and drops two kilos to 56kg.

Five kilos more belongs to the equal favourite Lucky Hussler from the Darren Weir stables, the galloper defending the Magic Millions Cup title he claimed last year with 60.5kg on his back.

He won first-up then and comes off a break having last been seen winning the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) at Sandown on November 12.

The dual Group 1 champion is the class runner in the race, but the wide draw and big weight make this a tough assignment.

So will the top two in betting head the Magic Millions Cup results or is there value further down the markets in the likes of the Robert Heathcote-trained Hopfgarten ($7.50) or Snoopy ($10) for Team Hawkes getting in on the light-weight?

#10 Snoopy ($10)

The easing double-figures on offer for this Team Hawkes-trained improver look generous and happy to back him to handle a rise in class. The Lope De Vega four-year-old won back-to-back earlier this prep at Sydney and Melbourne over 1400m before a last start December Handicap (1400m) win at Rosehill. Same distance here and he’s got a good record at it (8-3-1-1). Also on the 54kg minimum with Dwayne Dunn aboard. Plenty of boxes ticked and can step up to the plate.

#2 Most Important ($3.80)

Market mover and can see why. Barrier (6) is ideal and Robbie Fradd retains the ride. Last three summer runs in Brisbane have produced three wins including a Group 3 sprint and a 1350m effort at Doomben last month by over a length. Going up to 1400m will suit as he has form at the distance (5-1-2-0) and ran second at the track in 2015’s Vo Rogue. Magic Millions Guineas sixth was brave at the course 12 months ago and 56kg is manageable.

#7 Snippets Land ($13)

Adding more value to our Magic Millions betting tips is this Peter & Paul Snowden-trained six-year-old who is a dual placegetter from as many Gold Coast starts. Group 3 winner and first-up fourth at Rosehill in the December Handicap saw him beaten only 1.4 lengths. Comes back from 59.5kg in that to 54.5kg here, Blake Shinn is aboard once again and looks nice value.
