2017 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas Odds: Winning Rupert Firms

The Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 2017 odds continue to be dominated by the firming favourite Winning Rupert after the unbeaten youngster drew ideally for Saturday’s Gold Coast showdown.

One of two $2 million races on the Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday program, this summer’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) betting markets are all about the Bjorn Baker-trained Winning Rupert.

A capacity field of three-year-olds from the Magic Millions catalogue face off in the Gold Coast Race 7 at 3:15pm (AEST) on Saturday, including the first emergency Pipeline who gained a start with the early scratching of Peter & Paul Snowden’s Niccolance (21) who drew the outside barrier.

Drawn barrier six, possibly into five if the second emergency Billy The Kid (1) fails to gain a start, is the odds-on top fancy who jockey Jeff Lloyd continues associations with.

Baker’s star Written Tycoon colt has won all five of his career starts to date in impressive fashion including most recently the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) by five and a half-lengths and the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) by a three length margin.

“He’s beaten them [many of his rivals] before in good times. I don’t see a lot in the race that I think can trouble him,” Lloyd told RSN.

Despite the capacity field just one other three-year-old is under double-figures in the latest Magic Millions Guineas odds with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained filly Global Glamour ($6).

The dual Group 1 winning daughter of Star Witness suffered a blow drawing the second widest barrier for her second-up run and is out to atone for a first-up ninth.

She never saw daylight at Eagle Farm when she resumed against the older mares over 1200m on New Year’s Eve and will take big improvement off the run getting out over the extra metres on Saturday.

Global Glamour won the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in Sydney and Melbourne respectively over the spring.

Lloyd believes even from the draw the filly needs to be respected and shapes-up as the only possible danger to his mount.

“We didn’t see the best of her last week, she got held-up at a crucial stage. On her best Group 1 form, you’ve always got to respect Gai in the big races,” he said.

Occupying the third line of Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting at $14 is Eckstein who comes off four straight wins.

Brenton Avdulla rides the Kurt Goldman-trained I Am Invincible filly whose latest start starts produced a Listed Mode Plate (1200m) win at Eagle Farm and Gold Coast success over 1200m on January 7.

The only other runner under $20 is Global Glamour’s stablemate Arbeistam ($18), the Snitzel gelding coming off a three and a quarter-length Warwick Farm over the distance (1400m) last weekend.

The best of the rest at generous prices include Vo Rogue Plate runner-up River Racer ($21) and the last emergency Spending To Win ($21) who is far from guaranteed a run.
