The $2 million Restricted Listed Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) has attracted the full sixteen starters plus five emergencies, as did the day’s other headline race – the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Leading the way in the Guineas and odds-on in the latest Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au is the undefeated Written Tycoon colt Winning Rupert ($1.55).
To be ridden by Brisbane’s best hoop Jeff Lloyd, the hot favourite chases his sixth win from as many career starts when he steps out at the Gold Coast track for the first time on Magic Millions Day.
Winning Rupert’s latest two starts produced impressive Brisbane Black-Type wins by a combined eight and a half lengths including the three length Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) success on New Year’s Eve.
Lloyd has been aboard for all the galloper’s runs so far including also the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) win at Doomben as a two-year-old last winter.
Following Winning Rupert (58kg) in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas field and weights as well as the markets is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained filly Global Glamour (57kg).
During the spring the daughter of Star Witness enjoyed dual Group 1 wins completing the Flight Stakes – Thousand Guineas interstate double.
First-up she ran at Eagle Farm on December 31 and failed under 59.5kg running ninth, beaten under two and a half-lengths, to Kinshachi in a Listed race for fillies and mares.
She drops in weight for Saturday and getting out more distance is being kept safe in betting currently at $5 to hand Waterhouse her fourth win in the race.
Waterhouse has prepared previous Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winners Ha Ha (2002), Biaggio (2003) and Sweet Idea (2014).
Waterhouse & Bott have also accepted for in-form Snitzel gelding Arbeistam, a $21 chance to win, who comes off a 1400m win by over three lengths at Warwick Farm from last Saturday.
Other last start winners in the mix include Kurt Goldman’s I Am Invincible filly Eckstein ($17) coming off four wins on the trot and the Stuart Kendrick-trained Queenslander Rare Occurrence ($67).
Brenton Avdulla sticks aboard Goldman’s filly who has winning form at the Gold Coast over 1200m from last Saturday.
Prior to that Eckstein took out the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm in December, but she is as yet untested over further than that.
Rare Occurrence meanwhile won a Class 2 over 1350m at Doomben on January 2 following a distant fifth to Winning Rupert in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m).
Other notable Magic Millions 3YO Guineas final acceptors include the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained colt Niccolance and Vo Rogue Plate runner-up River Racer for Les Ross.
