The consistent Ron Quinton-trained mare Dixie Blossoms is tipped to enjoy a second-up win at Rosehill Gardens on Golden Rose Stakes Day in the Shearco Stakes 2016 this Saturday.
Due to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:30pm (AEST) as the last of the Black-Types on the nine-event card, this season’s $125,000 Group 3 Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes (1200m) has attracted a final field of 15 fillies and mares.
Leading the current Sheraco Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $5 to post her first win since January is the consistent Dixie Blossoms who comes off a string of second placings.
The latest was a first-up effort at Randwick on August 20 when defeated just a neck by Pearls in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m).
She drops to 1200m on the weekend and even from a wide barrier 13 draw is tipped as the one to beat by the bookies.
Following closely in Sheraco Stakes betting at $6 is the early market mover Ravi in barrier seven with Kerrin McEvoy riding.
The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Redoute’s Choice four-year-old won three races on the trot in Sydney to finish off her winter campaign, the latest at this track and distance on a Heavy (10).
If the rain returns to Sydney ahead of this weekend, the proven wet track performer will firm.
Ravi comes off two August trials, running second in both hit-outs at Rosehill, and after carrying 57kg to victory back in June she will enjoy getting in on Saturday’s 54kg minimum.
A further three mares at the opposite end of the weight scale are also under $10 in the Sheraco Stakes markets this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival with Pearls ($8), Heavens Above ($8) and Nancy ($9.50).
The John O’Shea-trained daughter of Exceed And Excel Pearls beat home Saturday’s favourite last time out in the Toy Show, but rises from 54kg that day to the 57kg top weight for the rematch.
A Group 2 winner and Group 1 performer as a three-year-old when under a length away fourth in last October’s Flight Stakes (1600m), Pearls also has the wide barrier 12 draw to deal with in her bid at back-to-back Group race wins this time in.
Heavens Above is drawn better in barrier three, Tye Angland booked to ride the Tim Martin-trained Street Cry five-year-old second-up.
He replaces Hugh Bowman in the saddle, the mare coming off a fourth when 1.6 lengths off Pearls in the Toy Show.
Runner-up to Azkadellia in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) the start before in April, Heavens Above enjoys the weight relief this weekend coming back from 59kg in the Toy Show to 56kg at set weights plus penalties in the Sheraco.
Nancy meanwhile is a stablemate of Ravi, the fellow Team Snowden-trained mare kicking off her spring.
The five-year-old daughter of Big Brown was last seen winning the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown (1300m) in late April and has trialled twice at Randwick since leading up to her return from gate two with Blake Shinn aboard.
