Mick Price will launch a two-pronged attack in the Group 1 race after confirming leading contenders Extreme Choice (barrier 7) and Flying Artie (barrier 5) in the 2016 Golden Slipper field.
Extreme Choice has undoubtedly underlined himself as the standout of the current two-year-old crop so-far and is undefeated leading into the Golden Slipper.
Stamping himself as one to watch when debuting for a comfortable win in the Inglis Nursey (1000m) at Randwick on December 12th, Extreme Choice returned this time for success in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1200m) before mustering a huge turn of foot to win the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) most recently.
Craig Newitt retains the ride on the Not A Single Doubt colt who should receive a good run in transit from barrier 7.
Flying Artie savaged the line for second in the Blue Diamond Stakes last start and could very well receive the run of the race in the Golden Slipper after finally drawing favourably.
Debuting for a strong second in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on November 7th, Flying Artie resumed this time for success in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) on February 13th in what was his only other competitive start so far.
Champion hoop Damien Oliver has a huge opinion of the son of Artie Schiller and is confident he is primed to win the 2016 Golden Slipper.
Seven fillies have been confirmed in the 2016 Golden Slipper field including the Gai Waterhouse-trained Scarlet Rain, who is yet to taste anything but success.
Taking out each of the Hyland Race Colours Plate (1100m) and More Than Winning Plate (1000m) upon debuting this time, the Manhattan Rain filly made a successful transition to black type company with a strong performance to win the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) on February 27th.
Godolphin Australia are spoiled for choice with their plethora of talented two-year-olds currently in work and have confirmed Astern, Calliope and Telperion in the 2016 Golden Slipper field.
Astern is also yet to experience defeat through his short racing career so far but faces a big task in winning the Golden Slipper from the outside barrier 17.
Delivering a smart field a comfortable defeat in the Surf Meets Turf Maiden (1000m) on December 5th, the Medaglia D’oro colt resumed this time for success in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) on February 20th.
Calliope will relish carrying only 54.5kgs and an ideal tune-up for success in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) last weekend.
Taking out the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on debut in October, Calliope resumed this time for a credible fifth in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m) on February 13th.
Telperion is undoubtedly the unknown quantity of the Godolphin attack but has reportedly worked very well in the lead-up to the feature race.
Resuming on February 13th for success in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m), Telperion placed a credible fourth in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) last time out.
Peter and Paul Snowden will also saddle three in the 2016 Golden Slipper field including Capitalist (barrier 2), Defcon (barrier 14) and Quick Feet (barrier 1).
