The opening black-type on the Randwick race card for Chelmsford Stakes Day this Saturday in Sydney is the 2015 Ming Dynasty Quality, betting tips for the three-year-olds’ handicap found below.

There are only nine in the mix for this year’s $125,000 Group 3 JB Cummings AM Tribute Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m), which is due to jump at 1:50pm (AEST) as Randwick Race 3.
Of the three-year-olds in the final field the favourite in the latest Ming Dynasty Quality odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Kimberley Star ($3.10).
Drawn in gate four with top hoop Blake Shinn back in the saddle, the daughter of Star Witness shoots for her fourth win from her past five starts.
Shinn rode her for a hat-trick of victories including one over this track and distance at the start of August before Tim Clarke rode her for her second to stablemate Speak Fondly in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 22.
She is tipped to return to winning form here with Shinn back aboard and the good gate for her second Group assignment.
Following Kimberley Star in Ming Dynasty Quality betting markets are four other single figure hopes including the lightly-raced Cannyescent ($3.50) having just his third start.
A winner on debut the Canny Lad gelding comes off a fifth to Shards in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) on the same day as the Silver Shadow at Randwick and will take great improvement from the run having only been beaten two lengths.
The next best fancied are the easing Voilier ($4.80 out to $6) and Metallic Crown ($7) coming off a win at Warwick Farm on a Heavy track for Sydney’s best trainer Chris Waller.
So can Waterhouse’s filly thrive with Shinn back in the saddle to beat home the boys and salute for the punters or is there an upset Ming Dynasty Quality result waiting to happen?

#1 Kimberley Star ($3.10)
She’s the deserving favourite based on the nice winning strike rate and was far from disgraced in her Group race debut when second to the nice stablemate. She’ll enjoy having Shinn back in the saddle and will get a nice run from barrier four. She’s also back up to 1400m after dropping from this distance to 1200m last time out, and she’s undefeated over Saturday’s distance (2-2-0-0). She’s also got a good Randwick record (4-1-2-0) and is the one to run down even carrying the 58kg here.
2nd
#4 Metallic Crown ($7)
Waller’s nicely-bred Northern Meteor colt has had three runs for three top three finishes to date including the maiden win over 1300m at Warwick Farm on August 26. That was a nice three length effort on a Heavy track and bodes well going into the black-type debut this weekend where the 1400m should suit based on the way he ate up 100m shorter to win last time out. It’s definitely a rise in class here from a midweek maiden to Group 3 company on a Spring Carnival Saturday race day, but should be classy enough to make it in this race and in better company rom barrier five with Jim Cassidy riding.
3rd
#2 Voilier ($6)
The Gary Nickson-trained Beneteau gelding comes off back-to-back seconds in similar company in Sydney races for the three-year-olds when a length off Sebring Sun in the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) and then a half-length off Shards in the Up & Coming Stakes. Narrowly beaten both times and stepping up to 1400m should suit him as he looks to continue a nice association at Randwick (3-0-2-0) with Tye Angland replacing Shinn in the saddle.
