2014 Eliza Park International Stakes Betting Update

12 of the country’s best mares will ride for victory in the 2014 Eliza Park International Stakes this Saturday at Moonee Valley, offering punters a range of top betting prospects and opportunity to back a winner.

The Group 3 Eliza Park International Stakes (1600m) is the last race of Cox Plate Day, set to run as Race 9 at 6:20pm (AEDT).

There are currently four single figure hopefuls in the Eliza Park betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led by Suavito at $3.20.

The Nigel Blackiston-trained mare will get a good start from barrier four with Damien Oliver to ride.

The four-year-old began her spring season with a win in the Catanach’s Jewellers Plate (1400m) at the end of August before backing up with a second place in the Dalziel Racing Tile Imp. (1400m).

Despite being favourite for the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) on October 4, Suavito never left the barriers. However that wasn’t an issue in the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) last week, in which she finished third after running without blinkers for the first time.

The bookies believe she can return to the winners circle on Saturday but she faces some tough competition from the three other single figure runners.

  • #2 Tango’s Daughter ($5) – will start from barrier seven, the widest start of all the single figure runners. Failed to make an impression in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis (1200m) in September but managed a third in the Listed Hussler Stakes (1400m) after being swamped out wide.
  • #6 Ava’s Delight ($5.50) – will enjoy a start from barrier three with Michelle Payne in the saddle. Was spelled for 10 months after coming second-last in the 2013 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) but returned with back-to-back minor placings in September before being blocked for a run down the straight in the Listed Tavern Stakes (1400m), coming fourth.
  • #1 Gypsy Diamond ($7) – will enjoy the sought-after inside run after drawing barrier one with James McDonald to ride. One of the most experienced mares on the field but has disappointed in her four spring starts, finishing no better than fifth. Weight-for-age racing was deemed too hard for her, so she returns to handicap here.

Will one of these single figure hopefuls bring the race home this Saturday? Or will a runner offering double digit odds steal the victory?
