Leading trainer Chris Waller has confirmed three of his stable’s runners will accept positions in the final field for this weekend’s season-ending Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), with classy mare She’s Clean added to the sensational pairing of stable mates Catkins and Red Tracer.
Marking the end of the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival’s major Group 1 events, the Tattersall’s Tiara may also represent the end of several runner’s racing careers, including Red Tracer, who has been rumoured to retire into a breeding career come spring.
“I don’t know if this will be her last start or not, it could be,” Waller told AAP of the Dane Shadow mare.
Turning over in her box upon arriving in Brisbane, Waller said that while initially sending a scare through the camp, Catkins will line up for the Tattersall’s Tiara in perfect health after performing well in work.
“She will be fine,” Waller added.
“She banged a leg and had to be treated for it.
“She galloped last Wednesday and again on Saturday and reports are all good.”
Claiming an impressive total of eight wins and six minor places from just 25 competitive race starts to date, She’s Clean finished fifth in the 2013 edition of the Tattersall’s Tiara; so-far her only tilt at the highest level of Australian racing.
Continuing to build in class and experience over the 2013 spring and early autumn this year, the Redoute’s Choice mare finishing fourth behind standout performer Srikandi in the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) first-up this time in before finishing an unlucky fifth when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Listed Bright Shadow Quality (1200m) last time out.
Claiming fifteen race wins and 14 places from 37 starts, Red Tracer poked clear to win the 2013 edition of the Tattersall’s Tiara for a maiden Group 1 victory, and returned in spring to take out the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) most notably.
Arguably the most talented Australian racehorse currently in circulation yet to break through for a Group 1 victory, Catkins has returned to racing in arguably career-best form this year; winning each of the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) and Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) first-up before finishing third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) most notably on March 22nd.
A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
