Temple Of Boom was an extreme outsider in betting markets for the Group 2 event and he was pushed forward by jockey Tegan Harrison in the early stages of the race to challenge Snitzerland for the lead, while Spirit Of Boom was settled at the tail of the field.
Snitzerland edged in front as the field entered the straight, but Temple Of Boom hit the front with 100 metres left to run and battled home bravely to hold off Spirit Of Boom who stormed home from the back of the field.
Trainer Tony Gollan elected to put Harrison on board Temple Of Boom in an attempt to inject some youthful exuberance into the veteran gelding, after he failed to fire during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, and he was delighted that the decision had paid off.
“I just said to Tegan before the race and the reason I put her on was that I wanted to ride her where he lands and wherever he is comfortable and that is what she has done.
“I told her that it might not be pretty and you could end up sitting three deep, but she let him travel where he was comfy and he failed the line good.”
Spirit Of Boom was forced to make up a great deal of ground in the straight and lost no admirers with his impressive closing effort.
Gollan was thrilled with the performance of the last start Group 1 winner and believes that he is on track for the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Eagle Farm on May 10.
“The tempo dictated the winner,” Gollan said.
“Spirit Of Boom was brilliant; he came from last and made up that many lengths.
“It was a great ride by the girl and I am very proud of her and very proud of my horse.
“I was very pleased with both horses runs and we have a good carnival ahead.
“They will go into the BTC Cup.”
