A field of 10 promising two-year-old fillies are set to face off in the first at Flemington on Saturday for Newmarket Handicap Day, the 2014 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes kicking things off at 12:10pm (AEST).

Of the 10 untapped youngsters in the mix for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m), it is the Gerald Ryan-trained Ygritte who is dominating the markets.

The daughter of Snitzel currently pays $2.60 to win her third career start having already posted a two length win at Kembla Grange on debut at the start of last month.

Her latest effort was a good second behind second pick for the 2014 Golden Slipper Mossfun in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 15 with Saturday to be her first Victorian start.

Ygritte is not set for a shot at the classic $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in Sydney next month however.

Instead she is being aimed at the $500,000 Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Australian Derby Day at Randwick on April 12.

It is a relatively open Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes market after Ygritte, barrier five, with five other single figure chances.

The second line of betting is co-held by the rails-drawn Top Sight for trainer Ciaron Maher and Tahni Dancer out wide in nine coming via an unplaced debut in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes both paying $6.

Bon Hoffa filly Top Sight is another who won on debut with her smart effort at Caulfield in mid-January.

She returned a month later at the same track for the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude where she was far from disgraced running fourth to subsequent Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake.

Drawn well in gate two is then Craig Williams’ mount Domino Vitale ($8) stepping up in class here.

Rounding out the single figure chances in the Melbourne opener are then the Gai Waterhouse-trained Widden Stakes fifth placegetter Muscovado ($9) and the unraced Thalia also paying $9 to break their maiden status.
