Scheduled to run as Race 3 at 7:16pm (AEST) this year’s $220,000 Group 2 Jeep Don’t Hold Back Fillies Classic (1600m) has drawn a final field of eight hopefuls.
Heading the Moonee Valley Fillies Classic field for 2013 is the David Hayes-trained Gregers.
Drawn in gate four with apprentice hoop Chad Schofield to ride, the daughter of Commands has been in flying form winning three of her past five starts.
Those included back-to-back wins here at Moonee Valley in August and her smart Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) victory at Caulfield last month.
Last week Gregers caught the eye when third to Darley’s runaway winner Guelph in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and she’s sure to appreciate the drop back in class here.
Three last start winning fillies meanwhile will be out to score successive spring wins in Friday night’s classic including Michael Kent’s rails-drawn Scratchy Bottom.
The untapped daughter of Sebring raced over 1550m at Moonee Valley on debut at the start of the month and stole the show, something she’ll be out to do again here.
The other fillies coming off a win are then the Peter Moody-trained Lady Tatia who won at Cranbourne on October 11 over the 1400m and Leon Corstens’ Choisir filly So Bella Arella who broke her maiden status at start number six on October 13 also over the 1400m at Cranbourne.
Corsents will also be represented by his Edward Manifold Stakes fourth placed Fantome Gris in gate two with Michael Rodd to ride, the only trainer with dual acceptors.
The Sebring grey will appreciate coming back to the mile after being outclassed when 10th to Arabian Gold in the Ethereal Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield last Saturday.
