This afternoon punters have plenty to look forward to at Caulfield Racecourse to see out the end of Caulfield Guineas Day, including the 2013 Toorak Handicap.
The penultimate event on the 10-race program, this year’s $400,000 Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) features a bumper 17-horse field engaged to face off.
The reigning Toorak Handicap winner Solzhenitsyn is the easing $6.50 favourite to win the mile classic again in 2013 having eased right out from $5 earlier in the week.
While they have the right form, last seen running third in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes which they were third in last year before their Toorak win as well, Rob Heathcote’s Brisbane-trained seven-year-old does have to carry the equal 58kg topweight.
It seems punters are turning away form a number of other top Toorak chances including the in-form Speediness ($6.50 out to $7), dual Group 1 winner Luckygray ($13 out to $15) and last season’s Australian Guineas winner Ferlax ($14 out to $17).
As for who the money is on, Mouro has been well backed in form $10 into $9.
Due to be ridden by Glen Boss, the Grand Slam stallion has own four of their 10 starts to date, including the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury back in May.
They were a very close second to Speediness in the Scone Cup before the break and resumed at Caulfield with a good second carrying 58.5kg so they will really appreciate the drop back to just 54.5kg here.
Another longer-priced market mover has been Lord Of Brazil in from $21 to $18, Darren Weir’s veteran galloper after their first win since January.
Full Toorak Handicap betting fluctuations are detailed below so you can see where the money is at and who the punters are out to sack.
