2013 Doomben Cup Betting Odds Update

The second day of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival runs at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday and the action will be headlined by the Doomben Cup 2013 where Foreteller and Lights Of Heaven continue to dominate the betting.

The dynamo duo who finished first (Lights Of Heaven) and second (Foreteller) in the Group 2 AD Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast last start, a race that has produced eight Doomben Cup winners since 2002, and are now tipped to fight it out for the finish in Saturday’s $500,000 Group 1 classic over the 2000m.

Originally Peter Moody’s 2012 Doomben Cup runner-up Lights Of Heaven, winner of the Group 1 Brisbane Cup – Eagle Farm Cup double last winter, and the Chris Waller-trained Ranvet Stakes winner Foreteller opened at $3.60 for Saturday’s rematch.

The pair has been equally supported but has eased out slightly as punters look elsewhere for value, the co-favourites now out to $3.70 as each vies for their second Group 1 trophy.

The Doomben Cup price for the third favourite Lamasery has also eased with the Sydney galloper out from $7 to $7.50, as has that for Gai Waterhouse’s VRC St Leger winning colt Hippopus ($8 out to $9).

Foreteller will be joined in the Doomben Cup field this weekend by two of their stablemates with veteran nine-year-old Danleigh ($26) and the race’s sole early market mover Beaten Up who looks one of the few in the mix that could handle a wet track if the rain returns.

The imported Beat Hollow gelding has had three runs down under their most recent an eye-catching second to Mouro in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury on May 4 and there’s been a tickle for them for their big Saturday assignment, Beaten Up firming in from $12 to $11 to upset their better fancied stablemate.
