Red Cadeaux is one of 106 horses to be culled from the 2012 Caulfield Cup field when first acceptances were taken today.
The seven-year-old will now be aimed solely at another tilt at the $6 million Melbourne Cup on November 6, 2012.
Red Cadeaux will not contest the 2012 Caulfield Cup.
Red Cadeaux lost last year’s Melbourne Cup in the narrowest of margins in the 150 year history of the event behind Dunaden.
The gelding then went on to place third in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin Racecourse in his next start.
Red Cadeaux has proved himself this preparation, placing in the top three in all five of his race starts.
His most recent result was a third placing in the Group 2 Princess Of Wales’s Goldsmiths Stakes at Newmarket in England.
He has won six of his 29 race starts and has earned more than $900,000 in Australia alone.
Mosheen is also missing from the 2012 Caulfield Cup first acceptances.
The four-year-old mare was far from herself when she resumed for the spring in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington last weekend.
Mosheen finished 13th in the 19-horse field, a full seven lengths behind winner We’re Gonna Rock.
For a horse that missed out on only one win in her five autumn race starts, when second by a nose to Shopaholic in the Group 3 The Vanity, her unexpected loss came as a shock.
Mosheen is still being aimed at the $3 million Cox Plate on October 27, 2012, at Moonee Valley.
Trainer Robert Smerdon will be looking to get her back on her Cox Plate 2012 path when she lines up for the Group 1 Rupert Clark Stakes in a fortnight.
“She really didn’t run anywhere near up to where we expected, so we might go to the 1400 metres of the Rupert Clarke in a couple of weeks and try to get her back on track,” Smerdon said.
Ocean Park and Sincero are also not included in the 2012 Caulfield Cup first acceptances.
