He wasn’t suited by the pattern of racing, he wasn’t suited by the track bias and he probably wasn’t suited by the surface either but it mattered not as he burst down the outside to claim the race by a convincing margin.
Trainer Rick Hore-Lacy admitted the temptation was there to push the horse up a little closer to the pace given the results we’ve seen at Moonee Valley tonight but they stuck to their guns and it paid off
“It was tempting to ride him closer given the pattern of racing tonight but I told the stewards we wouldn’t change it,” he said.
“He’s a very good horse and he doesn’t pull, if you get them up there and they start to pull its very hard to get them out of it.”
He came into the race with a huge amount of expectation on his shoulders and given the manner of his victory that’s only going to increase as they work through the carnival.
To be fair the challenges do get bigger though, it’ll be off to the Caulfield Guineas, then the AAMI Vase and potentially even the Victoria Derby to finish it off.
For jockey Dean Yendall that would be a dream run of races and one which he won’t be giving up without a serious fight.
“I’d probably say at the moment he’s the best horse I’ve sat on, hopefully he takes me places,” he said.
He says he was in full support of the tactics they used on Chase The Rainbow tonight and he has no shortage of confidence in the horse.
“We didn’t want to muck around with his pattern and get him over racing,” he said.
“It was a really good effort to run them down like he did.”
