Pureness Adds to Waterhouse’s 2011 Doncaster Mile Assault

Pureness

Pureness is set to join star stablemate More Joyous in the 2011 Doncaster Mile next month

Gai Waterhouse has added another name to her impressive list of 2011 Doncaster Mile hopefuls with Pureness earning a shot at Group 1 glory after winning the $175,000 Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

One of the richest mile races in the country, the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) is set to take place at Randwick Racecourse on April 16.

Eighty-eight gallopers remain vying for a spot in this year’s Doncaster Mile field including seven from the stables of Australia’s leading lady of racing, Gai Waterhouse.

Waterhouse is seeking her seventh Doncaster Mile victory.

The raging favourite in the Doncaster Mile odds is of course Waterhouse’s glamour mare More Joyous.

More Joyous added to her outstanding record on March 19 adding a third straight win this prep in the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and firmed into the $2.60 ante-post favourite to become the Doncaster Mile winner.

Now along with the likes of The Metropolitan winner Herculian Prince and classy six-year-old Lorne Dancer, Pureness has emerged as a genuine contender.

In the Ajax Stakes on March 26, four-year-old Tale Of The Cat gelding Pureness missed the start, was taken out wide by star hoop Glen Boss and still managed to score victory nearly a length ahead of veteran seven-year-old and fellow Doncaster Mile prospect Mentality.

Multiple Group 1 winning jockey Glen Boss is now considering taking the mount on Pureness in the Doncaster Mile although he is likely to stick with Coolmore Classic winner Aloha who currently sits second behind More Joyous in the Doncaster betting markets at Luxbet.
