Mick Price’s dynamic Caulfield-based duo of Extreme Choice and Flying Artie continue to dominate the Golden Slipper 2016 betting odds for the Rosehill feature on Saturday following good barrier draws on Tuesday.

The world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $3.5 million Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) takes place as Rosehill Gardens Race 7 at 4:30pm (AEDT) as the headline event of the weekend’s Sydney meet.

A full field of 16 starters plus a single emergency – Moqueen (4) – paid final acceptances on Tuesday when the Golden Slipper barrier draw also took place.

Updated Golden Slipper odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are now out and Price’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner, the undefeated Not A Single Doubt colt Extreme Choice remains favourite at $3 after coming up with barrier seven.

He chases his fourth win from as many career starts and second elite level on the trot after success in Melbourne’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in late February.

While making his Rosehill debut, Extreme Choice has winning Sydney form from his successful debut in December’s Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick.

If he jumps from seven he’s looking to be the first Golden Slipper winner from the gate since Miss Finland (2006), but if the emergency comes out and he jumps from six Stratum (2005) was the last from that barrier to salute.

He is also looking to continue the good recent record of Golden Slipper favourites with three saluting in the past five years including Vancouver (2015) last Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Price’s other runner Flying Artie also drew favourably in barrier five for jockey Damien Oliver who rode the 2007 Golden Slipper winner Forensics to victory.

Gate five last produced a winner the following year with Sebring (2008), but should he come into four he has a notable hoodoo to overcome with no winners from that barrier in over 30 years.

Flying Artie was second on debut at Flemington in Group 3 company last November before a Caulfield win first-up in the Blue Diamond Prelude and then his second to Extreme Choice in the Group 1 from the wide barrier 15 of 16 draw.

He occupies the second line of Golden Slipper Stakes betting at $5 to turn the tables on his stablemate from a better barrier in Sydney on Saturday.

The only other Golden Slipper acceptor under $10 for the win currently paying $9.50 is one-time favourite Capitalist for Peter & Paul Snowden.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden prepared the 2011 Slipper champion Sepoy and his hope this autumn Capitalist is a Written Tycoon colt who came up trumps with barrier two.

Jockey Blake Shinn has the ride on the Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic winner who is out to atone for a shock loss as the odds-on favourite in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 5.

The Todman Stakes – Golden Slipper Stakes double was achieved just 12 months ago by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Vancouver, and Waterhouse shoots for the same success this season with Kiss And Make Up.

In total Waterhouse boasts six Golden Slipper Stakes victories and after her More Than Ready colt Kiss And Make Up won the Todman by over two lengths at just his second start, he is a $10 hope of handing her a seventh this weekend.

Kerrin McEvoy, who rode Snowden’s winner Sepoy to success, retains the ride on the Todman winner from barrier nine in the Group 1.

Equal on $10 for the win this year is Astern for Godolphin and John O’Shea, the progressive Medaglia D’Oro colt suffering an early blow coming up with the outside barrier (17 into 16).

Sydney’s ace jockey James McDonald rides the youngster chasing his second Golden Slipper win in three years after success aboard class filly Mossfun (2014) two years ago.

He was aboard Astern for the horse’s debut win at Randwick in early December before Hugh Bowman rode him for the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) win at Rosehill last time out on February 20.

Astern since blitzed an 804m Warwick Farm trial on March 10 by four lengths win McDonald aboard and is looking to join Phelan Ready (2009) and Vancouver (2015) as the recent Slipper winners from the outside alley.

The other best in betting is market mover Good Standing ($14 into $13), the James Cummings-trained Artie Schiller colt coming off the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) win from February 27; Bowman retaining the ride from barrier 10.
