2015 Australian Oaks for The Vanity Winner Sweet And Speedy

Peter Moody has continued his impressive run of saddling long-odds horses to success at Flemington this afternoon as $17 chance Sweet And Speedy flew home down the outside to take out the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m).

Jumping from the gates well, Sweet And Speedy settled well within the pack of nine, allowing early leaders Wawail, Indulge and Maastricht to set a fair tempo away from the barriers and approaching the bend.

Remaining in the main running group rounding onto the final straight, the Street Cry filly appeared to be out of contention when eight wide and blocked for a run, but continued to find late; poking clear in the final 50 metres to hit the line of a fast-finishing Set Square; Wawail boxing on for third.

Trainer Peter Moody was understandably thrilled with Sweet And Speedy’s performance for success in the 2015 The Vanity and confirmed the 2015 Australian Oaks (2400m) will figure as her major target this season.

“She’s going tremendous and she was at ridiculous odds,” Moody said after The Vanity.

“Her win at Sandown was really good quality the other day and I think she’s a very good quality filly.

“She’s well and truly on an Oaks path. We gave her a month off to try and keep her fresh enough still at 1400m.

“She’s a very nice filly and like I said, she’s on an Oaks path and whether or not she has one more here before she goes to Sydney I’ll decide over the coming week.”

Running second in a Sale Maiden over 1100m on debut in April, Sweet And Speedy broke through for a maiden race win in the Gippsland Handicap (1200m) on April 27th and returned to the paddock following a credible third in the Group 3 Darley National Stakes (1200m) in early May.

Jumping from the gates well in the Ian Millier BM70 (1400m) first-up this time, the filly out of Speedy Natalie was immediately led to the fore and never appeared in doubt; hitting the line in the clear of Mossbeat and Peppermint Lane.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on all major races through the 2015 Autumn Carnival, including the Australian Oaks!

Yet to figure in betting markets for the staying event for three-year-old fillies at Ladbrokes.com.au, Sweet And Speedy may next contest the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in a fortnight.
