Updated Makybe Diva Stakes 2014 Betting – Dissident Firming Favourite

After drawing well with barrier six for his second Group 1 run this season on Saturday, the Peter Moody-trained Dissident has firmed further at the top of the 2014 Makybe Diva Stakes odds.

Pre-field release for this year’s $400,000 Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington the Sebring four-year-old was paying $3.30 to win and secure his second elite level trophy in as many starts.

First-up on August 30 Dissident made his 4YO debut and beat home a top field in Caulfield’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) as a $14 chance.

Now he has firmed right into $3.10 through Ladbrokes.com.au in their Makbye Diva Stakes betting markets to win his third Group 1 trophy and win his first ever start at Victoria’s premier track.

There are then four other single figure hopes in the markets with:

#3 Boban ($4.40) – Triple Group 1 winner for Chris Waller, won the Epsom Handicap – Emirates Stakes double last spring and is looking to go back-to-back in the race for his trainer who saluted with Foreteller last year.
#6 Puissance De Lune ($6) – Runner-up behind Foreteller in this race last year, former Melbourne Cup favourite back on track this season after injuring himself in the Cox Plate last spring, comes off a third in the Memsie Stakes where Boban crossed fifth.
#7 Messene ($8.50) – Team Hawkes-trained Lonhro six-yea-rold, Gorup 2 winner in Sydney last season, was ninth in the Memsie but improvement expected up over a mile where he’s won four of his five starts.
#2 Fawkner ($9.50) – Last year’s Caulfield Cup winner for owner Lloyd Williams, this Reset gelding resumes here heading towards the Spring Cups again having last run over the unsuitably short 1200m when seventh in March’s William Reid Stakes.

Outside of the five under $10 in betting is then early market mover Spillway ($10) for David Hayes & Tom Dabernig with the JRA Plate winner coming off a second to Star Rolling in the P B Lawrence Stakes, before Sydney Cup third placegetter Sertorius at $17 rounds out the hopes under $20.
