Chipping Norton Stakes Day 2011 – Liverpool City Stakes Nominations

The Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival kicks it up a notch this Saturday March 5 with Chipping Norton Stakes Day featuring a crack line-up of Group races including the $125,000 Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m).

Triple Honour

The 2011 Liverpool City Stakes Nominations include the Chris Waller-trained Triple Honour

A bumper list of 23 runners have been nominated for the 2011 Liverpool City Cup with the Chris Waller-trained Triple Honour the top-rated entry.

Runner-up to Dreamscape in the 2010 Liverpool City Cup 12 months back, Honour’s List gelding Triple Honour is out to go one better this Saturday.

First-up for the season in the Liverpool City Cup, six-year-old Triple Honour last ran in the Group 2 C.B. Cox Stakes (2100m) at Ascot on December 18 finishing a close fourth beaten less than a length by Colour Correct.

Resuming over 1300m should suit well on Saturday although Triple Hnour must contend with a hefty 61kg weight allocation.

Other early favourites among the 2011 Liverpool City Cup Nominations include:

  • No Evidence Needed (John P Thompson) – Local Shamardal mare ran a gallant third to superstar More Joyous in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) at Randwick first-up on February 12, a Group 1 placegetter running in a Group 3 at their home track looks a top chance
  • Pinwheel (Peter Snowden) – In-form Lonhro five-year-old won the Listed Canterbury Classic (100m) first-up this season before running second in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) last start at Randwick
  • Brilliant Light (Kerry Parker) – Last year’s Doncaster Mile third placegetter had a disappointing spring campaign, still has claims to re-find form here
  • Graceful Anna (David Pfieffer) – Impressive Canny Lad four-year-old was second to More Joyous in the Breeders Classic before being narrowly defeated on the line by Montana Flyer in the Group 3 Millie Fox (1300m) at Rosehill last Saturday

The capacity 18-horse Liverpool City Cup final field will be released on Wednesday March 2 and published here at Races.com.au.

The highlight event at Warwick Farm this Saturday is of course the $350,000 Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) that has attracted a scintillating list of early entries including reigning champion Theseo, 2010 Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday, last start winner of the Apollo Stakes Melito and Peter Snowden’s classy Commands colt Skilled.
