There is a new 2025 Golden Rose favourite in town following the impressive victory by Ciaron Maher‘s class filly Tempted in the Group 2 $300,000 Run To The Rose (1200m) in Sydney on Saturday.

The now three-time Group 2 winning daughter of Street Boss was outstanding fresh at Rosehill over the weekend with the autumn’s Percy Sykes winner kicking off where she left off when easily accounting for her fellow three-year-olds in the Run To The Rose results.
In a breathtaking return to racing, Tempted announced herself as a spring star with a dominant win in the six-furlong sprint, becoming just the second filly to win the race and vaulting into favouritism for the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 27.
Ridden fresh by Ethan Brown, Tempted ($3.90F) settled midfield before unleashing a devastating turn of foot to sweep past her rivals and win by 1.5 lengths over the Chris Waller trained Beiwacht.
“She let down really well. When I looked up at the top of the straight, knowing how the track was playing, I thought she would have to be really good to pick these up and she was. She really impressed,” Brown said.
Adding value to the trifecta in third was The Rosebud winning Written Tycoon colt Skyhook in another very good spring performance heading towards the Group 1s.
Tempted was having her first start for Maher after transferring from James Cummings under Godolphin’s new public training model.
“She is ultimately very impressive,” Maher told Sky Thoroughbred Cental post-win.
“She was a crack two-year-old and has developed the right way.
“Thrilled to be able to train for the Godolphin team. She is a very, very high-class filly. I was saying to Brownie when he was on the way to the races, ‘You’ll enjoy this one old son.”
As a two-year-old, she won the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes and placed third in the Golden Slipper, showcasing elite juvenile form.
A sharp trial at Randwick last week signaled she was ready to fire first-up.
Bivouac (2019) was the last runner to complete the Run To The Rose – Golden Rose double.
The price on Tempted to be the next in futures Golden Rose odds at Ladbrokes.com.au has firmed dramatically in from $15 to outright $3.60 favouritism.
However, history is against her as no filly has been successful in the Golden Rose since Forensics back in 2008 when the race took place in the autumn.
Tempted could be poised to rewrite history. Also on the radar is a potential tilt at the $20 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick in October, with Godolphin holding a slot in the world’s richest turf race.
Maher confirmed The Everest would be considered where she would attempt to be the first filly to claim the famous slot race.
“I’ll have a chat to the team. I’d say she has a lot of options,” he said.
“She could go a number of different ways. Given how she put them away, it would be very attractive.
“It’s just great to have those types of conversations. I’ve only been dealing with them a short time. They will make the right call. We can discuss it. It probably wouldn’t be beyond her.
“Three-year-olds have a good record in the race. She might be one out of the box.”
Yes Yes Yes (2019) and Giga Kick (2022) are the two three-year-olds to have won The Everest since its inauguration in 2017.
Tempted is currently listed at $21 in futures The Everest 2025 odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
