Caulfield Track Report – 21/09/2019

  • Rail: Out 3m Entire Circuit
  • Weather: Showers
  • Track Type: Turf
  • Track Rating: Good (4)
  • Irrigation: 10mm last 24 hours and week
  • Rainfall: Nil last 24 hours; 18.6mm last 7 days

The Caulfield track received 10mm of irrigation ahead of Ladbrokes Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day with the course proper rated a Good (4) before the first.

The weather forecast however is for plenty of rain across the afternoon meaning there is likely to be a downgrade to the Caulfield track rating as the meeting progresses.

Unlike in Sydney where a rain-affected Randwick track has seen a host of scratchings, the Caulfield card has just 10 official withdrawals.

The first Group status race on the program sees the mares face off in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (Race 5) and the Lindsay Park-trained Victory Kingdom (6) is the only omission.

That leaves a field of 12 and it is the flying Cockram Stakes winner Pippie who is firming favourite now into $2 in the latest How Now Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Next-up the 2019 Caulfield Cup hopes fight for the ballot exemption into next month’s $5 million feature in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (Race 6).

Running as the MRC Foundation Cup, the field has been hit with five official scratchings leaving 11 chances led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by the now rails-drawn Heatherlie Handicap winner Super Titus ($3.50).

The meeting’s marquee event meanwhile is the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Race 7) where all 15 original acceptors remain in contention including Begood Toya Mother ($2.80) leading the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au coming right down in weight to just 52kg.

See below for the full Caulfield race times and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day scratchings before heading over to race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au for the latest Melbourne racing odds.
