Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s Japanese-bred import Hush Writer is the clear favourite at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday heading the Winter Cup 2019 field and betting markets for the mile and a half feature.

Running as Rosehill Race 6 at 2:25pm (local time), this season’s Listed $150,000 Winter Cup (2400m) field attracted just the 10 end-of-season stayers.

Easily the best fancied of the chances in the current Winter Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $2.35 and firming to win second-up is Rulership four-year-old Hush Writer.

Previously raced in France, the galloper enjoyed his first win on Aussie turf on June 1 saluting narrowly in the Listed W.J. McKellCup (2400m).

The gelding returns to the track and distance this weekend looking to go two-from-two with Tim Clark coming aboard for the ride.

Hush Writer goes up 2.5kg to 55.5kg here, but remains all the rage in Winter Cup betting with the punters.

The danger according to the markets at $3.70 is the Chris Waller-trained veteran High Bridge getting in on 53.5kg in gate 10.

A rising nine-year-old Monsun gelding, High Bridge is also out of the W.J. McKell Cup having finished a narrow second to Hush Writer.

Getting in better weight-wise for the rematch the horse looks a genuine chance to turn the tables on his last start conqueror and break a winning drought that goes back to September last year.

Another winning hope looking at the line-up is the 59kg topweight Yogi ($6) jumping from barrier four with Joshua Parr aboard.

The Raise The Flag six-year-old represents the in-form training duo of Ciaron Maher & David Eustace, Yogi racing for the first time since the unplaced run (16^th) over the two miles during ‘The Championships’ in Randwick’s Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).

Freshened-up since that forgivable effort, the Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock (ATB) raced galloper gets the chance to atone here over the 2400m.

There is just one other stayer under $10 in the latest Winter Cup odds online with the rails-drawn Saunter Boy for Kris Leesa at $9.

The Australian Bloodstock-raced grey is up in grade here on the back of a fourth to The Candy Man at the Gold Coast on May 18 over 1800m.

That was Saunter Boy’s Australian race debut, the Myboycharlie six-year-old previously raced in the UK.

He comes right back in weight from 59kg to 55kg second-up and can finish strongly further franking the form around subsequent Group 3 Premier’s Cup winner The Candy Man.
