The Map is predicted to lead the punters to glory in Monday’s time-honoured Adelaide Cup 2024.

Betting on this year’s Group 2 $350,000 Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville is firmly led by the in-form Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray-trained mare The Map.

She presents fit third-up going out to two miles in the classic from a favourable gate three draw with ace jockey Ms Jamie Kah to ride.

Kah is going as good as the mare she partners in the 17-horse Adelaide Cup field having recently claimed the Blue Diamond Stakes – Australian Guineas Group 1 double on back-to-back Saturdays in Melbourne.

Alpine Eagle five-year-old The Map meanwhile won fresh here in the Listed JRA Plate (2006m) by an easy two lengths before her lead-up second under a length beaten in the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) on February 24.

She drops from 55.5kg that run to 53kg in the Adelaide Cup weights out to be the first mare to win the feature since Fanatic (2018).

The danger occupying the second line of Adelaide Cup betting this autumn is veteran 10-year-old Amade ($6.50).

Phillip Stokes’ gun Irish-bred son of Casamento may be getting on in years but continues to show a zest for racing.

The gelding was third in last year’s Adelaide Cup trifecta with 57kg and goes up in weight again carrying Monday’s 58kg top-weight from wide out in gate 15 with Zac Spain to partner once more.

Amade won the Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) last October and has been in good form again this prep including a last start Moonee Valley third in the Listed Torney Cup (2500m) with 60kg.

Following closely in the markets at $7.50 is then the Lord Reims Stakes winner Yellowbrick Road chasing a hat-trick.

The airborne Patrick Kearney-trained Victorian raider was good here in the Group 3 lead-up with more weight and is now out to complete the Lord Reims – Adelaide Cup double for the first time since Apache King (2001).

Two other horses are currently under $10 for the win with Excelleration ($8) and Alhambra Lad ($9.50) both drawn wider out in gates 13 and 16 respectively.

The Richard Cully-trained Excelleration has Harry Coffey aboard on 53.5kg with the in-form seven-year-old coming off back-to-back wins most recently in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup (2400m).

Proisir six-year-old Alhambra Lad meanwhile hails from the Plumpton stables of Patrick Payne and comes via a lead-up second in the Launceston Cup down in Tassie on February 28.
