Tiz Invincible Leads 2023 Flight Stakes Field & Betting

  • 2023 Flight Stakes Field Update: #11 Autumn Angel (2) comes out in favour of a run in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The airborne Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Tiz Invincible is firm favourite to extend her winning streak to four on the trot when she lines-up in the 2023 Flight Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Punters are treated to a triple-shot of elite level spring racing for Epsom Handicap Day including a field of in-form fillies facing off in the Group 1 $750,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) over the mile.

Heading the Flight Stakes field and odds at a deservingly short quote of $2.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au is I Am Invincible filly Tiz Invincible who is three-from-three this campaign.

She beat home the boys fresh in the Listed The Rosebud before taking out the Group 2 Furious Stakes – Tea Rose Stakes double.

Having come via the traditional Flight Stakes path and dominated, she is now looking to take out the final leg of the Princess Series and follow Zoustar (2022) who did the Tea Rose – Flight Stakes double last season.

In-form apprentice Zac Lloyd continues associations on the top pick in the Flight Stakes with the duo drawn the far outside alley (13 of 13), but with time to overcome the gate and salute for the punters.

The danger occupying the second line of Flight Stakes betting at $5.50 bringing in the same form lines to the grand final is the Gary Portelli-trained Kimochi in gate eight with Jason Collett to ride.

The daughter of Brave Smash has been the picture of consistency over her six starts to date and is yet to finish out of the money with a win and five minor placings.

She has contested the three opening legs with brave runs a length or less beaten in the Silver Shadow (3rd), Furious (2nd) and Tea Rose (2nd).

It is a big ask for her to now turn the tables on Tiz Invincible here, but she gets a chance from a more favourable alley up in distance now.

Two other runners are also at single-figures in the Flight Stakes odds online with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Tropical Squall ($7.50) and the rails-drawn Mollynickers ($8.50) for Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman not without support.

Striking Prized Icon filly Tropical Squall won her opening two career starts before running two lengths third in the Tea Rose Stakes on September 16, while Mollynickers comes via a different lead-up.

The well-bred daughter of Pierro has had all four of her starts in Melbourne so far including a close finish first-up at The Valley behind Charm Stone in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m).

She has her first Sydney assignment on the weekend and must handle the other way of going when up notably in grade for the Flight Stakes.

Trainer Chris Waller has prepared two of the past four Flight Stakes winners and chases back-to-back victories this season with the ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira aboard The Autumn Sun filly Tutta La Vita ($14) for the stable in gate three.

The 2023 Darley Flight Stakes is set to run as Randwick Race 6 at 2:50pm (AEST) on Saturday’s bumper 10-race card with full markets courtesy of Ladbrokes.com.au available by clicking here.
