The weather in Melbourne today is for scattered showers and heavier rainfall late in the afternoon meaning there could be a downgrade to the current Good (4) Caulfield track report.
Caulfield racing gets underway at 12:15pm (AEDT) with the Listed Magic Millions Debutant Stakes and the bumper 10-race card continues through until the stayers face off for the Caulfield Cup ballot exemption on offer in the Group 2 $300,000 Herbert Power Stakes at 5:45pm (AEDT).
The 2021 Herbert Power Stakes field is down to 12 hopefuls following the scratching of Fun Fact as well as the former favourite Floating Artist, updated markets now firmly led by Delphi.
The other Group 2 support act on the program sees a small field of eight sprinters face off for a potential slot in Sydney’s $15 million The Everest race in the 2021 Schillaci Stakes (Race 5).
Punters are treated to a triple shot of elite level racing at the meeting starting with Cox Plate-bound Zaaki dominating a small six-horse field in the Group 1 $1 million Neds Might And Power (Caulfield Stakes) due to jump at 3:10pm (AEDT) as Race 6.
The day’s marquee race is the Group 1 $2 million Neds Caulfield Guineas (1600m) – Race 8 at 4:30pm (AEDT) – and the field is set to run at just below capacity after the withdrawal of Coastwatch (running in Sydney’s Stan Fox Stakes) and Dark Rebel.
Updated 2021 Caulfield Guineas odds are dominated by the James Cummings-trained Anamoe out to atone for his second in Sydney’s Golden Rose as the beaten favourite last time out.
Race 9 brings an end to Group 1 racing on the card with the $1 million Toorak Handicap field led by the progressive I’m Thunderstruck coming off a third to fellow Toorak hopeful Sierra Sue in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
Two horses are out of the Toorak Handicap 2021 field with Harbour Views and Aysar the scratchings.
