Track Information: Inspection 6AM 20/2; Going Stick is 8.8, shear of 9.1. 5mm of irrigation will be placed on the track this morning. Soil moisture currently 27.8%
The weather in Melbourne today is partly cloudy but otherwise fine and, without any serious rainfall on the radar, the current Good (4) Caulfield track rating looks set to remain across the afternoon.
Caulfield racing gets underway at 12:40pm (AEDT) with the Listed $150,000 Neds Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m) and the nine-race program continues through until the Australia Cup types face off in the Group 2 $200,000 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) where Pappalino and Miss Siska have come out.
The opening Group race on the card is the Group 3 $160,000 Neds Zeditave Stakes (1200m) due to run as Race 2 at 1:15pm (AEDT) with just seven to face off after the withdrawal of the undefeated Vowmaster from the Waller stable.
Next-up it’s the three-year-old fillies’ turn in the Group 3 $200,000 Neds Armanasco Stakes (1400m) and all eight original acceptors are in the mix including last-start winners Impecunious and Safe Passage.
Race 4 has the older mares engaged in the Group 3 $160,000 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) that also has eight female gallopers in the field led by the WA star Perfect Jewel at short odds.
Things heat up at 3:00pm (AEDT) with a smart line-up of three-year-old staying types running in the Group 2 $200,000 Autumn Classic (1800m) where Albarado (11) is out, and markets are led by Young Werther and Khoekhoe.
Punters are in for a triple shot of elite level racing starting with Race 6 and it is a star-studded affair in this year’s Group 1 $500,000 Futurity Stakes (1400m) with Amish Boy a race day scratching from the event.
A golden ticket is up for grabs to the 2021 Futurity Stakes winner into the $5 million The All-Star Mile on March 13, but already the top three vote-getters are doing battle here with Arcadia Queen, Behemoth and Probabeel the ones to beat.
The meeting’s marquee event then steals the show with the Group 1 $1.5 million Neds Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) due to run as Race 7 at 4:15pm (AEDT).
Preview winner Dosh came out on Friday due to lameness, with Marine One subsequently failing his third vet check and also coming out.
The rest of the field remains intact and Enthaar is the red-hot favourite to remain undefeated following the 2021 Blue Diamond Stakes results this afternoon.
The last of the features is the Group 1 $500,000 Neds Oakleigh Plate (1100m) running as the penultimate event on the program and it’s a bumper 18-starter field led in betting by Ancestry for Phillip Stokes.
