Sunday at the Sunshine Coast sees the postponed...
Jockey Craig Williams continued his brilliant run of form at Caulfield on Saturday by riding the favourite Instant Celebrity to a win in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas (1400m).
Teaming up with Phillip Stokes, who is striking at a win-rate of close to 25% over the last seven days, Williams found himself back inside the winner’s stall with the champion trainer after the pair won the 2016 Thousand Guineas with Miss Gunpowder.
While Instant Celebrity was installed as the $2.80 favourite with Ladbrokes, Williams didn’t have things all his own way after missing the start.
The pair were forced to settle towards the back of the field in the early stages, but still managed to track into the race well with cover as Williams moved up under hands and heels.
“Isn’t she exciting? I’ve got to give full credit to the team back in Adelaide, they’ve done a fantastic job with this filly taking her through the grade and she’s come over here in excellent condition, so really good to see her do that today” Stokes told racing.com.
The daughter of Not A Single Doubt had won each of her previous three starts at Morphettville, but did appear a slight query in what was her Melbourne debut on Saturday.
“She’s always been good back at Morphettville, just kept on improving and she’s got the confidence. She’s a real class act” Stokes went on to say.
The stable are now full steam ahead towards the $1 million Thousand Guineas on October 10, and it appears Stokes is more than confident she can handle the mile.
“I don’t think it’ll be a problem. She’s a lovely filly, I think she can get further in time and very happy for Trevor Robertson for giving us this horse to train, so no, it’s a big thrill” Stokes said.
Ladbrokes bookmakers have acted accordingly, firming Instant Celebrity from $5.50 into $3.00 favouritism ahead of Hungry Heart in the market.
Personal, who ran on well for second, also looks a very serious threat at $7.00.
