Kris Lees’ German-bred import Attention Run heads the post-acceptance Wyong Gold Cup 2020 betting markets for Friday following her nice lead-up at Randwick three weeks ago.
The Australian Bloodstock-raced Hurricane Run six-year-old is one of 13 stayers accepted for the Listed $160,000 Carlton Draught Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) this season.
Drawn gate eight with Kerrin McEvoy to ride on the 54kg minimum, the classy grey mare was in winning form back in June and comes off a second to Taikomochi on a Heavy (10) Randwick track in the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m) from August 15.
The bookies are taking no chances with her on Friday despite Attention Run’s longest-distance win to date being 1850m and she sits top of the Wyong Gold Cup odds at $3.90 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Lees chases his second Wyong Gold Cup success following the 2016 victory of Slow Pace, while McEvoy was aboard Carzoff (2018) for Chris Waller two years ago.
Waller has absolutely dominated the recent Wyong Gold Cup results preparing seven winners in the past decade.
The master Sydney-based horseman is back with three runners in the 2020 Wyong Gold Cup field saddling-up The Lord Mayor (2), Savacool (6) and Toryjoy (13) drawn the outside alley.
Of the Waller contingent the best in Wyong Gold Cup betting to continue his outstanding run in the race is Savabeel mare Savacool ($6).
Recent winner of Hawkesbury’s Listed Rowley Mile (1600m), the six-year-old comes off a sixth in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (1900m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
On the short six-day back-up, she is tipped to improve despite going up in both weight and distance as her winter form over further was strong including back-to-back seconds over 2000m and 2400m respectively in Brisbane at Group 3 level.
Stablemate The Lord Mayor ($9) is also at single-figures as Waller chases his third straight Wyong Gold Cup success.
The Rock ‘N’ Pop six-year-old has last year’s winning hoop James McDonald (Wu Gok) aboard but, despite a campaign full of Black-Type placings, hasn’t won since January.
Along with the favourite, Newcastle horseman Lees also saddles-up the well-supported top-weight Raheen House ($6.50) who is another favourite in the markets despite carrying 60.5kg on Friday.
A seven-year-old son of Sea The Stars, Raheen House won the Group 2 Chairman’s hover 2600m back in April before his close third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).
He should relish the step-up in distance then second-up off a solid fifth in the Premier’s Cup Prelude and will be finishing strongly.
The Bjorn Baker-trained Kiss The Bride, drawn the rails for jockey Glen Boss, rounds out the Wyong Gold Cup horses under $10 for the win this week.
A five-year-old daughter of Savabeel, Kiss The Bride is the early market mover having been backed right in from $11 to $7.50 to extend her winning streak to three straight.
From 19 career runs she has finished out of the money just once and comes off back-to-back Randwick wins over 1800m and 2400m respectively in August.
While coming back in distance, Kiss The Bride should also appreciate a notable drop in weight from the 60.5kg she carried to victory on August 22 to just 54kg on Saturday making her a huge danger at a nice price.
